I'm thankful that my friends and I are able to have a Thanksgiving. We will all be there alive and able to have the food that brings us together. Turkey, corn bread stuffing, squash, broccolini, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pumpkin pie will be amongst us and candle lit. Many of us don't have meals like that unless we're dining out which has become fewer and far between these days.
And c'mon, Freestylah...I know you're not American, but have a heart; don't diss turkey day. Even Monstar loves Thanksgiving, and we once raped and killed his people.

Yep. Vietnam gave us 25 years of relative peace. Remember the slogan, "We don't want another Vietnam!" That kept us out of a lot of shit, reigned in the hawks. We are basically out of combat in Iraq by the end of 2010, and Iraq has given us pacifists some powerful talking points.
I hope this huge shock to the economy will result in better distributive justice. Banking systems will no longer be able to play loan shark, and sell bad loans as securities. There will be a realization that widespread prosperity is made through labor, not capital. Capital is the tool that keeps the country working, but the work must be rewarded. Demands for putting safety, living wage, and enviornmental preconditions on trade agreements will lift the quality of life worldwide.
These two disasters have given a mandate to the new leaders, to move in a progressive direction, and to achieve real change. And these disasters have politically buried the conservative movement for the mid future.
So, there are silver linings, and Americans are a resilient people. I want to believe I can retire into peace and prosperity in 2012.

I am thankful that, so far, it isn't worse than it is.
I am thankful that my brother has moved back east.
I am thankful that he doesn't have to sneak his cat in and so it doesn't have to stay with me in the meantime.
I am thankful that I have family that cares about me and tries to understand my illness, though it is trying on all of us.
I am thankful that I have great friend of long standing that forgive my disappearing from contact from long periods and don't even ask why.
I am thankful for an understanding landlord who tolerates my eccentricities, provides reliable people to take care of my monsters when I go to Florida or when I was committed, and who has decided not to raise my rent this year.
I am thankful that I have no one to worry about in Iraq or Afghanistan.
I am thankful that I can be thankful.

Surely you can't be serious - most Americans didn't vote for or support the dictators that got our military into Iraq through trickery and subterfuge, but not to derail with a pointless topic, Thanksgiving is like most other U.S. national holidays in that they've devolved into nothing more than:
1) An excuse to get people together.
2) An excuse to drink.
3) An excuse to drink to cope with having to get together.
In my case, it's #1.

Turkey Day consists of: Making a pie, Hording the dark meat (fuck off,LOL), Cranberry sauce, Yams, Stuffing stuffing stuffing, 5 different kinds of wine. 3 kinds of pie Fixing the brakes on Dad's car while the women cook (ha) Watching TV while the women clean up (double ha) Waiting for Grandma to embarrass herself after imbibing too much

Thankful for a secure job at an (apparently) secure large law firm and the disposable income that comes with it. Thankful for having that same disposable income to buy exotic beers, culinary gadgets, and nearby stores to buy ling cod, prosciutto, funky goat cheese, ad infinitum. Thankful that the Internet is still free of censorship and whose access is not partitioned out to the haves and haves not (i.e. Net Neutrality). Thankful that I live in a city and not a suburb (groan) or even worse, a "small town", "real values" be damned. Thankful that I can still get a newspaper delivered to my door every day for $13-$14 a month and three other weekly newspapers free for the taking at convenient boxes downtown. Thankful that last night's 105-minute "the Shield" series finale was awesome. Thankful for a new administration who (apparently) is contemplative, even-keeled and well-read as opposed to one that is ideology-driven, politically vengeful and in an ignorance bubble, and that the transition appears to be moving smoothly (sans Hannity fearing a tyrant). Thankful for (I know it's only) rock and roll (but I like it).

I cooked a 21 lb bird.. with yummy stuffing, mashed potatos, gravy, rolls, green bean casserole, corn as well, and made my parents favorite stuffed mushrooms!! My Mama brought the pie.
After we ate, I saved all the white meat and a lil leftovers and sent the rest home with my mama and papa. Now I do NOT wanna do the dishes!!!
I am very thankful for many things in my life, my family, friends, my job, and the people who make my job possible!! I am thankful for all good in the world and hopeful for change for the not so good...
