It's more about couples having rights under the law. It would be nice if the gubmint got out of the marriage biz altogether, but so long as married hetero couples are afforded rights (no matter how bogus that marriage is) and 'mos who have been together forever are not afforded those rights, i guess the fight will go on. I see the argument, too, when you look how fucked up it is in other parts of the states where gays can't even adopt. We have gay marriage here now and nobody gives a shit....
