Alens: Colonial Marines should be at least okay. Crysis 3 should be good and some hardware wrangler. Both are planned for a release this month.

I have trouble getting into FPS shit that lacks story/atmosphere/immersion. Never could get into COD or Crysis. The graphics on 3 do look astounding though with the whold overgrown city thing. From what I understand, Crytek is going F2P pretty soon here, so who knows what the future will hold for the Crysis name. I'm a little pissed that the companies are deciding to release everything in fucking March. Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Gears Of War: Judgement, Last Light. They bitch about sales, then they decide to go ahead and just release their AAA shit when everyone else is. I'm glad The Last Of Us is slated for May.

The whole story thing's nice when it works, but generally, FPS games don't have much of a story to offer and still work out.
Call Of Duty's all special forces hopping across the globe to essentially save the world until next year, when the next one comes out. Crysis 1, Warhead and 2 are gorgeous, but solid shooters, too.

Far Cry 2 and 3 are nothing for me. The open world shit's getting tiresome and if accepted game design consists of letting people wander around to finally get some progress going when the mission starts after some epic stroll, something's becoming irrelevant.

Looking at some episode of The Bonus Round, there was a game designer who worked on at least the second Borderlands; he basically considered Call Of Duty's on-rails game design running through one set piece to the next to be empty.
I wanted to try the first Borderlands and while there would've been many, many boxes with some shit'n trinkets laying around in dark corners for sure and it's all very cell-shaded, I didn't actually give enough of a shit to tolerate absolutely atrocious aiming at the very beginning of the game. Clearly some auto-aim console abortion, forgotten and haunting.
So while his bullshit fad game was left aside, I played Call Of Duty and had some entertainment.

Borderlands is very frantic and much better enjoyed with a friend. The second one is worth a shot if you have people to play it with. Good gonzo humor and a seemingly neverending barrage of missions, plus millions of guns. There's really nothing to hate.

I'm almost done, one Colossus left, this looks great in HD. Love this game, will tackle the rest of Ico next. Haven't noticed any of the jerkiness in the battle scenes I read about, assume that was on the PS2 version. BTW is there any reason there are 16 Collossi, or is it just to ensure a sufficient length of gameplay?

From what I know, there were actually more, but Ueda, being a stickler for details decided that some didn't work and he shaved a few off of the original list. He's a tough designer to work with. He's widely known for sweating the details and isn't afraid to shave months and even years worth of work on a game on a whim. He had a lot more plannded that he scrapped because he didn't feel they fit with physics engine. I mean that asshole's only been working on The Last Guardian for what? 8 years now? Pretty sure that's going to be a PS4 title at this point, which pisses me off because that was the sole reason I bought a PS3. I'm that big of a fan of his games. Sixteenth colossus is a bitch. Good Luck. Don't forget to climb the Temple and explore the world thoroughly when you're done.

Played the limbo demo. Liked it, but never downloaded the full. Have you played Bastion, Claude? If not, do it.

Thanks for the rec, I just got a Steam account and downloaded it for $3.74 on sale. Hotline Miami looks like good, mindless bloody fun. I also just got The Cave on PS3.

Limbo was short which works for me as I don't have 20 hours to commit to a game and the puzzles are a good mix of hard and not-too-hard. Great visuals obviously, I dug it. I'm liking the puzzle platformers more these days than the first person shooters.

The Cave is the one that Ron Gilbert made, right? Where you pair people up and use their unique abilities to progress sort of like the Lost Vikings? Bastion is pretty short. More of an action RPG than a puzzler, but it's all about the atmosphere on that one. Might wanna' try The Unfinished Swan and Papo And Yo while your'e at it.

Papo and Yo is a puzzle platformer where you have this monster friend thing that gets mega pissed off and tries to kill you when it eats poisonous frogs. It's all an analogy for the developer who grew up with an abusive father who beat the shit out of him. The frogs represent alcohol.





The Unfinished Swan is kinda like Journey. More of an arty experience in atmosphere than a game.

ive been beating ss4ae with the remaining characters i hadnt beaten it with yet recently.today i beat it with gen and somehow unlocked a secret boss battle after seth.i had no idea there were secret boss battles for some characters.also when i reached chun li(gens rival)they had dialog back and forth while i was playing.ive finished the game with nearly every character and this hasnt happened before.

also anybody else dissapointed with the ps4 controllers?i wish they wouldve added the touch screen and just left the rest of the design like it was.if somethings not broken,dont fix it.

That Sony press conference was quite dissapointing. No pics of the box. No mention of price point. No mention of used games (although Yosida stated afterward that the system will not restrict used games, which is quite ambiguous in that it might just be pushing the responsibility on developers). I know it's where the biz is headed, but I could give two shits about the social interactions of video games. It's such an annoying, immature, repulsive community of people. Single player and couch co-op is where it's at for me.

i got a message on my ps3 today.it says its from the psn and its thanking me for being a loyal customer or something along those lines.it has an attachment which it says is a ten dollar credit for the psn.it seems legit enough.i dont think theyd let someone make their name psn and theres not a way you can add registered and copyright logos in the keypad.anybody else get one before or recently?i just dont want my system to get hacked.

Consoles were supposed to make gaming easy and bulletproof, take it away from evil things like enough RAM and a keyboard and mouse for those not used to auto-aiming.

Then they essentially became specialised custom PCs and happy bug fixing entered the picture. Heavily marketed titles take upwards of two years to make and it's customary for publishers to force studios to meet some financially relevant release date, in any form. Fixes on day one of the release might patch it up a bit, but it's not exactly Super Mario material in terms of polish mostly.

The next batch of consoles are probably jukeboxes even more than the current one.

I saw some videos, some embedded above and some from the same channels and didn't get what the hardware was supposed to be capable of, then remembered a creepily intelligent hardware design guy present the downloading in parts, which sounded like what the streaming service OnLive tried and failed miserably with, as far as I know.

Pure DLC might not be all that bad, but they wouldn't want to miss out on those simply not going online with their console and definitely try to milk everyone.

With porn it's just a matter whether your display device is worth a shit or you give one about it. Free stuff looks terrible when it's streamed and downloaded clips offer drastically limited choice. If you care about quality, check a Blu-Ray out sometime.

Finished Ico, liked the ending a lot. Now I'm onto Dark Souls, will probably never finish it, tough as hell but a lot of fun so far. I'm with Fartz on the 'gamer community.' DS and Journey have about as much interaction with other players that aren't my friends in RL that I would ever want: silent and tangential. Will pick up The Witness and Bioshock Infinite when they come out.

Crysis 3 is hardware meth. On the PC; the rest surely is just pitiful.

played the new dlc for about a couple hours.the new multiplayer levels are pretty interesting.the best ones are the snow one and the skatepark.the water one is okay,and the other one is kind of meh.i only played the high rise building a few times,but its pretty fun and has a new dynamic to it due to the building situation.the playable zombie mode is extremely fun even though its only available on one previously available area,the diner.i played it 3 times and actually won the third time with 17 kills and was the last man standing.i hope that they add this mode to other maps in future dlc.just imagine that being available in the high rise level.itd be the tits.

also on the topic of the ps4.its only going to have 8gb,so wtf happens when you run out of room?is there going to be an add on hard drive available.are games only going to be streamable?not having physical copies of games would be gay.

It's funny you mention Journey. When I turned it on for the first time, the other guy in my game ran circles around me and chirped nonstop. I wasn't very surprised that someone still found a way to act like a fucking attention-starved fourteen year old with all of the usual interactions removed. I yanked the Ethernet cable and continued on peacefully by my lonesome. My kid cried at the end of Ico. Did you finish SOTC yet? That's probably one of my favorite endings of all time. Singularity also had a great ending.

I'm playing through the Borderlands 2 DLC and counting down the days until I pick up Tomb Raider, which has received stellar reviews across the board, so far.
