Has anyone offered to blow the pirates up on their way home?

I don't get how this scheme works.

EDIT: Or rather I don't understand how the pirates could be paid a ransom and still feel safe about leaving the ship. How could a ransom payment be arranged in a way that would ensure the safety of the pirates who are to be riding in boats away from the ship?
