My mom is from South America and I travelled around. Each country and region within a country has its slang. Sometimes the slang words mean totally different things - 'guagua' in one place (Ecuador, i think) means bus, while in another it may mean bus. Coño (cunt/pussy) is heard all over the place in Venezuela or parts of the Caribbean but is a stronger put down in Argentina. I hear Mexican slang and don't understand half of it.
