Not likely: absolutely. The Republicans won more of the vote in 1992 than Obama just did - and McCain in losing did much better than Bill Clinton - but there were two Republicans running for president that year...

No. The single biggest political debt he owes is to Ted Kennedy, and it's a big one. Prior to Kennedy's endorsement Obama was no more than a big pest and had no significant party backing. Kennedy's endorsement both made Obama credible and gave cover to others in the party to switch to Obama from Hillary Clinton. And Kennedy hasn't forgotten, you can bet the farm on that.

(Obama may not like it, but if he wants anyone confirmed in the Senate he'll have to live with it)

Actually Obama owes even more for his election to George Bush...
