I know how to paint. But I am not sure what kind of advice you are looking for.
I think you should go to an art supply shop and just buy some water color paints and experiment and see what works for you.
If you want to paint your apartment I can give you tons of advice when the time comes.

Look for an art supply store. I remember Utretch had one or two in Manhattan. They will have staff who can point you to the right medium/paint/brush combo. If you have a valid student id (ccny, cuny, community college) you'll get a discount. I'd start with acrylics or oils before watercolors. I heard watercolors are harder to manage when you are starting out. you can take a learning annex course to get the basics down - and meet chicks there, too.

What Bluecipher and conq told you is very solid advice. Water-based paints need different (thicker) paper. If you'd use it on standard printer paper, it gets soaked and your drawings are fucked. The colours are beautiful though. Link to Wiki watercolour page

Not necessarily fucked. It is true what freestylah said about paper. Pick paper that suits what ever you want to use it for. Probably you should not say "enema schematics" to the clerk at the art shop.
If you explain that you want to do some technical drawings and add colors to them the clerk at the art should be able to help you better realize your perverse and antisocial fetishist diagrams.

Buy the house brand paints for now. make sure the paper you get is the right texture for the medium, obviously. get a color wheel - helps with choosing colors and styles. look up pantone codes to get some basic colors down and compare them.

Ye, I will take a look at the house brand paint, guess its cheeper. The 300lb cold press is fine, I just tried it/felt it like 15 mins ago in crafts store. I already got the color wheel.
