<clicky with imbedded video> 'Joe the Plumber' is a no-show at a McCain Ohio rallyLA Times Although it might seem like Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher is everywhere these days, he wasn't at John MCain's rally this morning in the small town of Defiance, Ohio. Except that nobody told the Republican presidential nominee that. And so, in the midst of his speech, McCain called out to Wurzelbacher, as he often does on the campaign trail. “Joe’s with us today," McCain told an audience of about 6,000 people. "Joe where are you? Where is Joe? Is Joe with us today?” he asked. When Joe failed to appear, an awkward silence settled over the crowd. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Maybe Joe finally figured he'll do better on taxes with Obama. Or maybe he blames McCain for FoxNews ripping him a new one on his Obama = Death to Israel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eSJuWgZGYo

You can't meet with your newly acquired publicist, plot a country music album, and stump for McCain all at the same time. The man's only human.

Joe is FOUND!!!! So, he wasn't Defiant in Defiance, Ohio.
Turns out the McCain campaign FORGOT to tell him about the rally. [Or maybe his people forgot to tell Joe's people ... ]

The Plumber Shows Up
New York Times
October 30, 2008, 4:39 pm
By Elisabeth Bumiller
ELYRIA, Ohio – Well, Joe the Plumber finally turned up.
Joe, aka Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, who went missing this morning at a McCain rally in Defiance, Ohio, materialized this afternoon at the band stand in the town square of Sandusky and then again here in Elyria. Turns out that Mr. Wurzelbacher never received final word in these seat-of-the-pants last days of the McCain campaign that he was expected, leaving Senator John McCain to look out toward the crowd and repeatedly ask, “Joe, where are you?’’
Mr. Wurzelbacher, who told CNN that the campaign contacted him immediately afterward and dispatched a car to rush him to Mr. McCain’s next stop, has so far been a man of few words.

Hustler needs to follow up 'Who's Nailin' Paylin?' with 'This Ain't "Joe The Plumber" Cleaning Paylin's Pipes!', or whatever creative masterstroke of a title Jeff Mullen comes up with. Christian would be the natural choice to play Joe, but I can't recall whether he's on Lisa Ann's no-list or not...

Problem is that in about a week, I'm not sure that anyone's going to care anymore about the words McCain, Palin, Joe The Plumber and all the other buzzwords they're using as lightning rods for news headlines at the moment.

i'd expect an effigy of joe the plumber like those mos did of palin in west la except he's not running for vp. again.....speak not against the chosen one lest yee too shall be smitten down by HIS acolytes Quote:
A state agency has revealed that its checks of computer systems for potential information on "Joe the Plumber" were more extensive than it first acknowledged.
Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, disclosed today that computer inquiries on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher were not restricted to a child-support system.
The agency also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.
Jones-Kelley made the revelations in a letter to Ohio Senate President Bill M. Harris, R-Ashland, who demanded answers on why state officials checked out Wurzelbacher.
Harris called the multiple records checks "questionable" and said he awaits more answers. "It's kind of like Big Brother is looking in your pocket," he said.
If state employees run checks on every person listed in newspaper stories as buying a business, "it must take a lot of people a lot of time to run these checks," he said. "Where do you draw the line?"

Please, King. As if anyone associated with a presidential campaign isn't investigated by his/her opponents supporters. Sorry, I don't like it myself, but that's American politics in the 21st century. The times when no one out-ed FDR for being a cripple are long gone. Remember the "everyday kid" the idiot Democrats had give a radio address? How fast until Bush's people out-ed him for having a scholarship at a high-end private school. Sorry. It works both ways. And, you know, King, if Sam the Icon wasn't a fraud and a tax-beat, none of this would matter. But, once again, with a country full of honest, tax-paying, properly licensed "everyman" white guys, McCain chose badly. Lessons to politicians: Vet your people. I'm no big Obama fan, and I am nervous about how he's going to do when challenged. But, I think he's better on the economy, and unlike the party currently entrusted with the military, he will likely be less rash and wasteful. My brother and sister, both of whom will be taxed MORE by Obama than McCain, are voting for Obama anyway. Both ride me mercilessly about McCain. I gave money to McCain in 2000. Someone else has possessed his body. This isn't the John McCain I respected. He sold out to the very people who maligned him in 2000, somehow bought into an economic plan he found flawed in 2001 and now can't get out of his own way. He's become a punchline. You choose to make a person the icon of the "everyman", it would help if something about what you claim he represents is true. Isn't it the McCain people who make a big deal about who you associate with??? You betcha'!

By Government officials? On Government time? Using Government resources?
If they'd hired a Private Detective to dig up dirt, that would be one thing. But this?
BTW: Is he "associated" with the campaign in some official capacity? Even if he was, it still wouldn't be legal for Jones-Kelley to use State resources.

well, that explains abc, cbs, nbc, cnn, cnbc, msnbc, ap, reuters, nyt, latimes, time, people, us, etc.'s fascination with joe given they are all in the tank for obama.

outside of the evil, racist, oil hungry, bush empire, how much of the media focused on that event compared to today with jtp? how many state governments investigated "every kid"?

typical liberal talking point diversion. obama approached joe the plumber not the other way around. I don't give a fuck about jtp or who he is or his background, history, tax status, unemployment, etc. he's not running for pres. obama is. the focus should be on obama's answer to the question "spreading the wealth around" not jtp.

That's funny because disagreeing with Obama seems to turn a person into a racist.

You want to make this a liberal/conservative thing. For me, it isn't. It's just pure comedy.

McCain saying he's going to bring an unlicensed plumber, tax-beat to Washington with him [as he did the other day], is like the signing group becoming Pappy's "braintrust" in 'O Brother Where Are Thou'. Pure Comedy.

Face it. The reason Sam the Icon became an issue is that McCain made him his archetype not because Obama talked to him.
Face it. No one beside the McCain campaign noticed him until after the debate where McCain could even get his name right.
Face it. McCain picked the guy as his poster boy and he didn't hold up to the scrutiny.
Face it. Another bad pick by McCain's campaign staff.
I'm no leftist loyalist. Obama doesn't thrill me. But, I've got to pick between the two, and in the most important race of his life, McCain is fucking up left and right. Sam the Icon is just another example.
True, I was leaning Obama once it was clear who the candidates were. But, that's McCain's fault. He embraced the Christian Right. The possiblity of Der Fuhrer Giuliani as AG frightened me. I took choosing 'Token' Palin and as further kowtowing to the Christian Chrazies. I had no idea she would prove incompetent as well.
McCain lost me. I gave him money in 2000. The only other Presidential candidates I've ever given money to was Clinton in 1992 and Gore in 2000 [against W].
And, it's not only me McCain's lost ... look at the EPIC defections from the moderates in his own party. Amazing!

But, this "Joe the Plumber" stuff just makes me laugh!!

This post qualifies for the most sensical post during this election season.
And I agree wholeheartedly. Wise words, well said. Thank you!
