Rather than namecheck all the movies people already know, I thought I'd offer up a few rare gems from off the beaten track...
SUSPIRIA
Dario Argento is an unabashed maestro of the macabre, and his incredible eye is complimented by the unsettling soundtrack by Goblin. You really can't go wrong with Argento in his pomp...simply brilliant. Creep-factor is added by the fact that whenever you see the killer's hands in an Argento flick, you know it is Dario himself who is strangling, stabbing and slashing the assortment of winsome young lovelies.
VAMPIRE CIRCUS
My favourite Hammer vampire flick which (bizarrely) doesn't feature Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing, and thus is criminally overlooked and little known. Think of it as an erotically-charged hybrid of the Hammer classics, plus Something Wicked This Way Comes, and Cat People, and you'll be getting near the mark.
CRADLE OF FEAR
Low-budget anthology flick starring Cradle Of Filth frontman Dani Filth...internet snuff, dismemberment, sex, gore, cat entrails and Spider-Baby! Fun for all the family!
VAMPYRES: DAUGHTERS OF DRACULA
Two centerfold-quality (Playboy and Mayfair respectively) vamps seduce feeble minded men, drain their blood and then fake car crashes to get rid of their bodies. A guilty pleasure to be sure, but a pleasure all the same...
ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS
The infamous 'Eyeball scene' tells you all you need to know, namely that this is an awesome movie!
RAZOR BLADE SMILE
Super-low budget, but hits the spot. Eileen Daly is the sexy vampire assassin who swings both ways. Never going to win an Oscar, but great fun nonetheless...
