Tom Morello and Springsteen do Ghost of Tom Joad. Springsteen is such a duffer compared to Morello's guitar work.
bruce looks like a cave man playing that guitar next to morello. quite the disparity in style, technique, and sound.
He's got that Willie Nelson style of playing, in that it's just not very good but no one really notices because of his showmanship. But put him next to a picker who thinks outside the box along with being technically proficient, Bruce's playing stands out like a sore thumb. Say what you will about the E Street Band, they're about as tight as a rock band comes.

I've been watching these docs on BBC about some of the bands I came up with. Sab, Thin Lizzy, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. It's weird to see it presented as "historical". And weird to see these guys who were blowdried pretty boys at the height that are just ol' geezers now. Bill Ward, perfect example. Circle of life, I suppose.

Me too. Takes me back. They sound a bit like Metal Church. Really good find.
I fucked up my turntable a few years ago, but I'd shifted to CDs before, so it was no big deal. But I stumbled on a nice one at a yard sale at my neighbor's a couple of weeks ago. It's been 1984 ever since. Venom, Mercyful Fate, Satan, Virgin Steele, Bitch, Warlock. Worshipping the Devil and cheap vodka. Good times.

I moved from my little country town to Seattle in 84, thinking I was ahead of the curve because I was into Motorhead and Queensrych. Went into Easy Street Records in Bellevue because that was the home of the Queensrych story and discovered Kerrang magazine and imports. Very overwhelming. I ended up buying Mercyful Fates's Melissa album. Not my favorite, by any means, but I've always had a soft spot for MF and good King Diamond. For my boy's first "real" Trick or Treat, I face painted him as King Diamond. His mom was kind of confused as to who King Diamond was, and my evasive answers drove her to google him. I was in trouble.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1lXzKItFEI Metal Church was the absolute shit in my group because they were kind of local. Super nice guys. At the time you'd meet lots of people who were on the verge of not quite making it. Signed to a little label, touring beyond their geogrphical reagion (if not another continent). Making meager living from being in a band. But definitely not rockstars. Egos are a funny things. But these guys were very nice and had no problem with sharing their Absolut and weed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1woxkraClg Manowar was by far my favorite band of that era. Superior musicianship, blood and guts songs. Good stuff. They're still pretty huge in Europe.
