@loopnode: Was seeing them live fun at least (and are you talking about the team in the video I posted or other filkers)?
I do like Star Trek but I think I realized after watching more filk videos that the part I find offensive is not the acoustic music, it's that they try too hard to force the references to geeky shit into the music.
What I am getting at is you can only make Monty Python (or whatever equally nerdy thing) reverences every so often before they become predictable and stupid.
It's boring. Like watching someone masturbate to the idea of their own awesome cleverness.
But at the same time these folks so firmly and shamelessly embrace their geekery that I kind of like them on a personal level just for that. They are having a good time and from what I can tell all of their events free to attend (and you would probably be a big hit if you brought some snacks).
I'm curious what your impressions were because I really like this kind of thing in theory. Also I would like to know what someone who doesn't get all the internet/c'thulhu/star trek references thinks.
