I've been drinking alot this weekend....beer and corn liquor. It occurred to me that my earliest memories of watching TV were the opening to "Get Smart" and "Batman"(the old cheesy tv show), specifically catwoman and batman and robin climbing up the side of buildings.

My father was an avid watcher of the San Francisco ABC affiliate news with Van Amburg.

Day after day, Watergate was a main story.

They always used the same cheap graphic of what was, in retrospect, the Watergate Hotel.

Being five years old, I thought it involved some kind of dam issue, and as I dug a sizable hole in the backyard and built a big-brick Lego dam, I would create my own "Watergate" by loosening the dam a bit to allow the water to escape from one side to another.

my earliest tv memory is a saturday/sunday afternoon rerun of the classic movie "creature from the black lagoon" because it scared the fuck out of me as a 5 year old in the late seventies.

A toss-up between "Romper Room" (which, in retrospect, with its all-seeing "magic mirror" has a very disturbing "1984" aspect to it) and these tarts (whom I blame entirely for my current addiction to Japanese cat-eared costume porn):

The song from the beginning of "Fraggle Rock" sticks with me also. I don't know if it predates "Inspector Gadget" though.

I grew up in the Chicago area and watched Ray Raynor and also the Garfield Goose and friends show.

They would show the creepy Clutch Cargo cartoons where they used real mouths for the cartoon characters.

I used to watch an Italian TV show about these two brothers that went around Rome solving crimes. I don't remember the title but I remember each episode was very short (maybe 20 minutes or so) and they drove around in a mini cooper. I think this show was from the 70s. One of the episodes I remember they went to The Leaning Tower of Pisa. That's pretty much EVERYTHING I remember.

Another early TV memory was obviously TinTin.

The earliest TV memory I have is in the days immediately following JFK's assassination all the cartoons I watched were preempted for all sorts of JFK coverage.

Can't say I do. I do remember I was a big fan of commercials from the time I was 2 1/2 to 4 years old. Other than "Mom" and "Dad", my first words were the names of fast food joints that I was seeing the signs for while riding in the backseat of the car.

Like Dean W, mine involve the JFK assassination. I remember my mom sitting me in front of the b/w tv to watch part of the funeral. All I remember is people walking behind the coffin. I don't remember the John-John salute.

The other earliest TV show I remember are "Zorro" and Lawrence Welk [which my Grandmother adored].
