I have looked for a while at this picture. Few things:

1. She can open her left eye pretty wide for it being beaten black/blue a few hours before.
2. That's not a 'B'; that's a '8'.
3. That 8 is not very deep at all. Hardly a scratch.
4. Which is confirmed by: She refuses medical treatment after the assault.
