I had a judge explicitly say in chambers, "Go ahead and appeal. They'll probably approve your motion. Until then..." In other words, he denied bail, knowing it would be overruled, but enjoying the fuck out of making my client pay for an appeal and sitting in jail until an emergency petition was filed.

Federal judges don't do this--they usually don't play golf with one another the way state court judges do.

Too true. She's also got much better lawyers than the average fugitive with a bench warrant chasing after them.
