Palin was a purely tactical election move on the part of McCain, and a very good tactical move at that. It's the best tactical move in a campaign I can think of in the last 50 years or so.

... which does not mean McCain thinks any more of her than anyone else. Presidential candidates chose their running mates to win elections, nothing more.

Remember that neither McCain nor Obama are setting policy, they're running a campaign.

PS. I had dinner recently with a friend who is retired and lives off of investments. He said he believes in all of the Republican economic positions, he just can't afford for the Republicans to try to do it any more.
