McCain wasn't directly involved in canceling the investigation, nor was John Glenn - both backed off when told it was a criminal investigation, not civil. Nonetheless McCain took a lot of heat from Republicans since it would have been a purely Democratic scandal had he not been around.

Trying to tie Obama to things this guy did 35 years ago is bullshit, too, and only makes the Repubs look desperate.
Chuck, to my knowledge, nobody is holding Obama responsible for what Ayers did in the '70s.
What they're faulting Obama for is associating with the guy knowing what he did and knowing that he's never expressed remorse for it.
Obama did launch his first political campaign from Ayers' home, after all. To me, that shows a lot more questionable judgment than picking a moose hunter for VP, a job that was described by one of its holders as being "not worth a bucket of warm piss."

Why in the fuck are you people defending Republicans? The party of the right-wing Christian moralists and corporate conglomerates? Why? What the fuck? I can't understand how anyone who even glances at this board would ever seriously entertain Republican ideals. I don't get it. Please explain.
Neither party has a monopoly on virtue. Neither party is to blame for everything that's gone wrong.
Neither party has a spotless record when it comes to The Pornography.
I'm a Democrat and Obama scares me. McCain does too. I haven't decided who I'm going to write in yet, but I'm not voting for either of them.
I do enjoy tweaking the true believers, though.

I remember Charles Humphrey Keating Jr not just from the S&L scandal....but by his many Anti-pornography crusades.
He had a great cameo role (played by actor James Cromwell) in the The People vs. Larry Flynt.
Charles Keating a true American douchebag!

But Republicans are evil. They are the single biggest impediment to man's progress. They are wrong on every issue. War, poverty, pollution, loss of rights, theocratic reasoning, destruction of Government services and infrastructure, and diplomatic isolation from the rest of the world, and ya'll defend them? As Max gets ready for prison? I see why Steward hasn't been on here this month, he probably can't stand to see this shit. I'd rather see Cynthia McKinney, but the Greens don't really have a chance. Obama, flawed as he may be, is our only hope to escape the tyranny of the Republicans. Can't you see how evil they are?

You know what's evil? That sort of willful color blindness that paints everything in black & white and sees one side as the embodiment of evil and the other as the personification of good.
That's the sort of thing the Theocrats do.

When American think of Wall Street, they associate same with the GOP. This bodes ill for the GOP, so they will go any lengths to slime Senator Obama as part of a desperate attempt to prevail in an unfavorable political climate.

Last I checked, Chuck, McCain and the Christian Right despised each other. The bone they were thrown was Palin, who will spend the next four years saying stupid shit and dedicating bridges if they get elected. Unless you seriously think any future President, Democrat or Republican, is going to give their Veep the kind of power Cheney had.
Although I do give you credit for your willingness to put your money where your mouth is with regard to Max. You're no Tritone.

I am an American, and while it is true that I live a Democratic stronghold, the Wall Street=GOP equation nonetheless seems reasonable.

The Wall Street meltdown is the current hot news topic and likely to remain so for the forseeable future, as it reinforces folks' fears for their basic economic well-being. Of course, a domestic terrorist attack would threaten folks existentially, but in absence of same, IMO the predominant narrative of the balance of the Presidential campaign is likely to involve economic themes.

I voted absentee today, because I will be out of pocket on election day.
Two State Constitutional Amendments on the ballot involved allowing State and Municipal Gov't pension funds to invest in stocks. (They are currently prevented from investing in the stock market). It takes a good deal to get these things on the ballot and I've no doubt the process started two or three years ago when the markets were riding high...
I seriously doubt the Amendments will pass now, and maybe with good reason.

Jim, if McCain chose Palin for his VP, what kind of people will he chose for other posts, Attorney General, for example? DOJ? What kind of judges is he likely to appoint? Will he find a Sec. of State who knows what the Bush Doctrine is? Will Phil Gramm advise him on economic matters? Scary. This "maverick" stuff won't get us the change we need, it will get us Bush retread staffers making important decisions.
Charlie, no ill will, hell, I don't know you. But I bet a majority of Republicans would call porners "scumbags". Think Joe Friday. We have whores, fanbois, etc. around here, so I hope you aren't too thin skinned. And yes, I've seen so many cops lie, that I don't trust them, it seems to be part of the job.

Again, you assume he's going to allow Palin to actually do anything. I think there's as much chance of that happening as there is of Jeremiah Wright embracing his melanin-deficient brethren.

I think just about everyone besides Darrah knows what the Bush Doctrine is.

But it was OK for FDR to appoint a crook like Joe Kennedy to run the SEC? Although I think his top economic advisor will remain Holtz-Eakin.

Trying to slip out of the sack? The problem with message boards is that you anonymous fuckers can spew your shit with no repercussions. I don't have that luxury. Spend a few bucks or take a look at the newsstand--my office address is there. I'm not going to sit here and not respond as the actual person I am, as opposed to a Kucinich-licking big-talking mystery persona like yourself. So kiss my fat Irish ass, cop hater.

You are confusing ambitious neo-cons with true Republicans. A real Republican in the White House would never have run up the deficit that Bush has. A true Republican (and granted there numbers are dwindling much faster than polar bears are) would also keep the federal government out of individuals lives (including the bedroom) as much as possible. A good chunk of the Libertarian Party (including myself) are former Republicans who are disgruntled at their party's current platforms and priorities.
BTW there is no shortage of far left Democrats who want to extinguish the porn business too. Google Andrea Dworkin and Robert Jenson for examples of this breed. There are others of their breed, mostly university intellectuals and womens studies professors.
