Palin was a purely tactical election move on the part of McCain, and a very good tactical move at that. It's the best tactical move in a campaign I can think of in the last 50 years or so. ... which does not mean McCain thinks any more of her than anyone else. Presidential candidates chose their running mates to win elections, nothing more. Remember that neither McCain nor Obama are setting policy, they're running a campaign. PS. I had dinner recently with a friend who is retired and lives off of investments. And the $100 grand he collected from Charlie, don't forget that covered two Congressional campaigns and his first run at the Senate. And let's not forget that McCain used to take rather lavish trips with Keating to the Bahamas, and didn't reimburse Keating until the trips became news. Or that Hensley Distributing had a very close business banking relationship with Lincoln. I don't know if you've ever seen an analysis statement on a business DDA, but Hensley was paying about 10% of what comparable accounts were being billed.
