I watched Palin speak as I was loading my camera en route to shoot Jesse Jane et all and wondered if she (Palin) ever went to college.

Elaborator, didn't your doctor warn you about the dangers of taking medication and watching debates?
I watched it and thought she did better than predicted. In fact, I found a few moments where she threw Biden off his pace.
"Your plan (for Iraq) is a White Flag of Surrender."
Indeed it is.
In any event, if Bentsen/Quayle '88 has taught us anything, it's that the VP debate means nothing.

Elaborator was probably playing a drinking game and blacked out after the 75th time Palin said maverick and the 45th time Tony Stewart err, Biden referenced Home Depot. Elaborator's opinion is kind of irrelevant the GOP isn't targeting his vote. They know that Palin could have came off sounding like Winston Churchill and it wouldn't sway the Elaborators of the world's vote.
Both candidates sounded more like NASCAR drivers in a post race interview than VP candidates. Every fucking answer was Obama this, McCain that. Those two idiots are debating next week I don't want to know what they think this week. I wanted to know what you two idiots believe but you both gave me the mushroom treatment.

Same as elaborator and the Daily Kos won't sway anyone's opinion by crying about "Rovian" tactics by "McSame" and company.
In the end, this will come down to the undecideds. Palin being able to hold her own helps McCain, but a resolution to the financial crisis will help a hundred times more.

Is not melting down really the bar we want our... potential leader to pass?
Hardly. The fact remains however, that this was the bar that was set. For this, the Obama camp has only itself to blame: By insisting that she was a latter-day Dan Quayle, they made people's expectations so low that they were expecting a massacre. It didn't happen.
As for Biden, he was also better than expected. He's known to get easily flustered in debates and make mistakes. For the most part, this didn't happen, either.
The New York Times seems to agree:
A Candidate Recaptures Her Image
"Oh, man, it’s so obvious I’m a Washington outsider, and someone just not used to the way you guys operate,” she said after her opponent explained, somewhat awkwardly, why he had voted in favor of the Iraq war.
And that was how Sarah Palin got the better of Sarah Palin. The debate wasn’t so much between Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Ms. Palin as it was between the dueling images of the Alaska governor: the fuzzy-minded amateur parodied — with her own words — by Tina Fey on “Saturday Night Live” or the gun-toting hockey mom who blazed into history at the Republican convention...
And Ms. Palin was the one who set the tone, making Mr. Biden sound stuffy before he had a chance to make her look unsteady. She bounded onto the stage, shook hands with her opponent and said brightly, “Hey, can I call you Joe..."
She twinkled, cocked her head, and spoke as plainly as she could. “Darn right it was predator lenders,” she told the moderator, Gwen Ifill of PBS, when asked who was to blame for the mortgage meltdown. Her sentences had lots of pep and patriotism, and few g’s at the end of her words — “You betcha” and “Get down to gettin’ business done” and “doggone it.”
Expectations for both candidates were low, but the expectations for the debate were almost absurdly high — cable news commentators led up to the event like children on a Halloween sugar bender, deliriously excited by what The Washington Times described as a “Thrilla in Manila” showdown.
Mr. Biden made few mistakes; he appeared more measured and thoughtful on substance, and made forceful points that contrasted with Ms. Palin’s slogans. But she provided the more vivacious, visceral television performance: it was a 90-minute sprint to reclaim her identity as a feisty, folksy frontierswoman ready to storm Washington. And she did it like a reality show contestant — broadly, with stagey asides to the camera, including an assurance to some third-grade students, in what she called a “shout-out,” that they would get extra credit for tuning in...
Ms. Palin attacked her opponent’s positions on taxes and on the war with gusto, at one point accusing Mr. Biden of “waving the white flag of surrender” in Iraq. But mostly, she tried to recoup from past blunders on foreign policy. She twice dropped the name of Kim Jong Il of North Korea, made a point of referring to Iran’s president and described the Cuban leadership as “the Castro brothers.” She also recast her television interviews as traps set by liberals, not unforced errors of her own.
At the end of the debate, before she was surrounded by her husband and children, and burped her newborn, she thanked the moderator for the chance to talk to the American people “without the filter, even of the mainstream media, kind of telling viewers what they’ve just heard.”
It was a pre-emptive strike against commentators poised to critique her performance and a retroactive strike against the other Sarah Palin.

Throw in an art school and that sounds like my college history. Palin has taken the same educational path as a cum dumpster. Great. Look, I expect more out of a VP or President. I'm expecting Ivy League or a Rhodes Scholar. Sorry.
There are plenty of people around without Ivy League degrees and Rhodes scholarships who have the intellectual capacity to be POTUS. I'm sure there are people on this board who have higher IQs (for what that's worth) than many of our presidents. What is required is above average intelligence but exceptional judgment.

I don't see a cult of personality either for Palin either. What I do see is zombies showing up at Obama events. Those people remind me of the Moonies from the 70s except Moonies were better behaved and a hell of a lot less angry.

Though I think the Obama people are naive, can you really blame people for getting wrapped up in him after Bush? Politics are almost always about image over substance. Palin sounds dopey and I gotta question McCain's judgment for picking her. I really like Nader, btw. Does that make me an idiot?

Sarah Palin's folsky, punchy performance in the vice-presidential debate helped revive her own political reputation today but is unlikely to halt an alarming slide this week in John McCain's White House campaign. Palin, portraying herself as a feisty representative of small-town America standing up to the Washington elite, matched - and at times even edged ahead of - her Democratic rival, Joe Biden. Although she lifted Republican spirits, the problems fast piling up for McCain may prove too many and too big for her to reverse. McCain's decision yesterday to abandon campaigning in Michigan exposed a narrowing in ambition, signalling he is no longer trying to compete for states the Democrats narrowly took in 2004 but hoping simply to consolidate those Bush won that year. With the Wall Street meltdown dragging him down in the polls and new figures out today showing a ninth straight rise in the monthly jobless figures, this may prove to have been the week the campaign turned decisively in Barack Obama's favour. McCain is under pressure to deliver stunning performances in the remaining two debates with Obama, in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday and Hempstead, New York the following week. At last night's debate in St Louis, Missouri, the only one between the two vice-presidential candidates, Palin defied critics and comics who had been mocking her all week. Although she frequently betrayed nerves early in the debate, hurrying out words and ideas, she made no gaffes - other than referring to the US commander in Afghanistan, David McKiernan, as "General McClellan". Palin stuck to well-rehearsed lines on the economy, climate change, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan but delivered them with a perkiness that contrasted with a more studied, fact-filled and subdued performance by Biden. Two instant polls suggested that her folksy appeal failed to resonate. A CBS News poll found that 46% of uncommitted voters thought Biden had won, with only 21% saying she had. A CNN one found voters declaring Biden the winner by 51% to 39%. But politicians - some Democrats as well as Republicans - and pundits awarded her at least a draw or even a narrow win. Mike McCurry, who was Bill Clinton's White House press spokesman, summed up the verdict heard most often today when he said: "Biden won more points, but Palin probably won more hearts." Senator Claire McCaskill, part of Obama's retinue, described her as "very likeable" but "there's much more at stake here than who's likeable". Obama's chief strategist, David Axelrod, was more sceptical about whether her populist appeal will resonate with voters. "This was a folksy rendition of the same Bush policies," Axelrod told reporters in the so-called Spin Alley outside the debating hall. Palin began the debate with confidence, striding across the carpet, blowing a kiss to the audience and asking Biden, "Hey, can I call you Joe?" She sprinkled her comments with folksy phrases like "doggone", "betcha" and "darn right". Foreign policy provided the biggest flashpoint of the debate. After Biden made a case for early withdrawal from Iraq, Palin hesitated, as if caught off guard, but then made an inflammatory statement: "Your plan is a white flag of surrender in Iraq. It is not what our troops need to hear." Biden remained polite throughout the debate, smiling at her, occasionally bemused, even as she goaded him. He betrayed emotion only once, in a moment that may have been rehearsed, when his eyes became moist while describing life as a single father. Although she has softened some of her previously conservative positions, she refused to concede that climate change is man-made. "I'm not one to attribute every activity of man to the changes in the climate," she said. She flew today to Texas for a more restful day fundraising while McCain campaigned in Colorado, a swing state that increases in importance after his abandonment of Michigan. Obama, after a day on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania, was scheduled to have a romantic dinner with Michelle in Chicago to celebrate their 16th wedding anniversary. scandalous Eurosource! Fucking Britney Spears Politics is not what we need right now America!!!

Now THAT'S Hilarious. Darrah-esque, even.
Meanwhile, the evidence of the Obama Cult is overwhelming. Shall I demonstrate?

Nader is actually a Maronite Catholic. In any event, Nader's far left views have nothing to do with radical religion and for you to infer so shows a continued defensiveness about the Rev. Wright issue.
