I like passing the mansion when I jog and hearing, "MAY I HELP YOUUUU?" when I get too close to the sensors.

Why doesn't he rent out the mansion for parties, weddings, birthdays, .... ?
Darrah's straightjacketed now and can't answer but what a dumb fuckin comment and perhaps she was being facetious, since the mansion has already become little more than a gimmick for corporate events and private parties, bachelor parties, with non playboy whores trucked in.
Unfortunately poor Hef's time is over - only more recently did it become public what his whores have already been doing for years - stepping out and spreading for NFL and other pro athletes, slipping numbers to dudes in clubs palmside down "i'm not supposed to do this or my whoring contract will be cancelled!", etc.
These days Hef shuffles around confused bumping into walls and every so often his office manager comes and sits him down, tells him "you stay put here" and spoon feeds him some gerber's apple sauce. After that it's a poop followd by naptime (usually around 3:30pm). I could go on but you get the idea. The end came pretty fast.

At some point the Hefner family is going to take the stock private again. I think it was down to $2.10 yesterday. Playboy's empire was cut in half in a matter of 30 days.
Wonder if I should by some of it now?? Any advice??

This one is pretty easy to guess or imagine....it really was riding on how ho'ish that particular one was...I am sure their were a "few" that never broke their individual contracts because they took it all verbatim....and once again not everyone’s needs are the same....they were by some peoples standards at the time pretty well compensated for only being photographed nude and doing basic publicity work during a specified timeframe.

Not so....he’s had years of fun and frolic......everybody’s run come to a close. An Icon and Legend too many.....And Someone who should have kicked the bucket many, many years before their time to others.

*I* wouldn't touch it - aside from the fact right now is not the time to buy most any stock. Playboy's days of peddling fuzzy-lensed videos with girls pillow fighting in slow motion or having car wash soap fights are dead and gone. Their mag and website are less relevant and profitable than ever given the inability to adapt with the times especially with the saturation of alternatives. Their stock being in the tank is a pretty good indicator that these facts are widely known and obvious. The A.D.D. consumer has too many choices now for meeting the prurient interest that Playboy once addressed. To rise and fall is the cycle of life so it's only natural.

Keeping it in your mattress (in all seriousness) only helps to devalue the worth of each dollar quicker rather than having it in the bank.
I'm amused how many people i've heard have actually taken all their money out of their bank in the last few months of economic scare.

Warren is right of course, but that does not mean you should buy any American stocks. There are good American stocks out there but Playboy definitely does not belong to that category.

I agree. Like anything else, you need to do your research.
As far as Playboy goes, I think it will cling to life as long as Hefner does, but not much longer than that.

I'm not so sure...from what I hear, he's actually one of the bigger impediments to their business model changing at all levels. Apparently his daughter has to fight him tooth and nail to get any sort of diversity with the centerfolds, and I'm not talking black, asian and latina, but instead things like 'brunette'. He's still clinging to that mythical Marilyn Monroe ideal (I believe he owns the burial plot next to hers?), which is no bad thing in and of itself, but it is when you can't see past it and grasp the bigger picture.
Personally, I used to read (yes, read!) Playboy every month...I'd much rather buy it than Maxim or FHM for example, but it seemed to me that silicone was becoming the rule rather than the exception, and I haven't bought an issue in just under a decade. Also, the mag became a bit self-absorbed too...the Playmate sleeping with Hef kept winning Playmate of the Year (in spite of more popular and marketable choices in the ranks), and pictorials were devoted to whichever assembly-line Barbie had joined Hef's harem, at vastly inflated rates. Said money could have certainly been better invested elsewhere in celebrity pictorials featuring celebrities that the readership actually gave a flying fuck about.
Playboy has a strong brand (look at all the Playboy merch you can get), but in the end, the brand might outlive the magazine if they're not careful. Right now, they have both 'The Penthouse Problem' (wherein Penthouse hit the wall because it was the neither-fish-nor-fowl middle rung between the ultra-soft Playboy and the more graphically explicit Hustler), only this time their competitors are the ultra-soft 'lad's mags' and the ultra-hard 'internet porn'.
What makes their situation doubly problematic is that there are already numerous websites out there that offer the same sort of content as Playboy, but offer a lot more of it and more often than not do it better (Suze, DDG, Met-Art, Hegre, Femjoy, etc), and the fact that you can download either the pictorials that someone has scanned or an entire pdf of the mag off of P2P almost simultaneously as the print version hits the shelves.
Playboy got a warning sign that they didn't heed when Perfect 10 became a success. They just stayed in their hole and kept digging.
I tend to think when Christie Hefner takes the reins for real, she'll quickly hand them over to someone who knows what they're doing, business-wise, with a mandate to whip the company into shape. The real question is whether she will ever get the opportunity.

They had a good run....they were the innovators for a lot of stuff....had some diversity for awhile also.....but the days of the Playboy Clubs, Casinos (Atlantic City/Never Fully finished) and Hef's personal "Big Bunny" DC-9...are all way over. I think we were told in a little project that appeared on "E" television and now on DVD.....just how far not the rabbit hole goes...but not just that…..more like just how far they are willing to get publicity, press in general and to try and revive the image in general of old to a world the has changed from vinyl to 8-track to cassette to Beta & VHS, to DVD, HDDVD & Blue Ray and ultimately the internet.
It is what it is....Sinking ship....with its publisher in chief emeritus....who’s living back in the days when Dorothy Stratton WAS the playmate of the year.
I still hang on to the real "collector’s issues" waiting till the house of cards tumbles....then selling them on e-bay for a song.
