I am sad to report that my favorite 24-hour deli in lower Manhattan, the Riverside Cafe at 46 Water Street (rear enterence on Pearl Street across from the Stone Street bars) has lost it's lease and will close forever at 7:00 AM Saturday morning. The good news for anyone in the city is that between now and 7:00, everything in the store, including beer, is 2-for-1. Grab it while you can.

Stoli, this is the second bit of bad news from that area in six weeks. Rosario's Bistro, which had incredible italian food at dirt cheap prices, closed up shop after 25 years. Great little place: It was only open for about four hours on weekdays at lunchtime, closed nights, weekends and whenever Wall St. had a holiday. Yet, they made money hand over fist because their food was sooooo good. If Wo Hop closes, I'm shooting the Mayor.

You can shoot that mayor, anyway. One of my absolute fav pizza places is off Wall near Trinity. Total hole in the wall, of course. I've never once had a slice there where the cheese didn't slide right down my shirt. Good times. I know people think there's a million pizza shops and delis, but oh man, when you love something... I'll sip a glass of Kuskova and mourn your loss

It's always the little hole in the wall places that have the best food.
Jim, I hope you're out there eating like a glutton. I'd kill for the food spots NY has.

You talking about Giuliano's? They are pretty good.
I've been eating at Grimaldi's a lot lately. Good place to bring friends from out of town.
I have to say though, no matter how good the pizza is, never, ever eat at Goodfella's in Bay Ridge. It's run (or at least was run) by a trigger happy ex-cop who shot my friend's dog for no reason in the park because he was pissed off at having to work one rainy July 4th weekend back in the early 90's. He got away with that one because his dad was some muckety-muck at One Police Plaza, but got forced out a few years later when he went nutty on a civilian.

GoodFella's sucks ass in Bay Ridge, Staten Island, anywhere, everything there is terrible, I think their pizza sucks. Grimaldi's is one of the best, but the waiting outside forever annoys the shit out of me.
Jim since we're from the same area (or you work in my area) go to Union Street (between Hicks & Columbia) called House of Pizza, excellent, one of the best and will always be, they havent changed in over like 75 years. They deep fry their calzones, they're perfection. And right across the street is Ferdinando's the place I told you that has Manhattan Special on tap. All their food is amazing. Got a bit pricey, but for 2 for lunch, you can easily rack up a 50-60.00 bill. When I was a kid, if you spent 10.00 that was alot and you got one of everything. If you like Panelle (ground chickpeas) deep fried w/ricotta, shaved parmagiana on a roll its incredible, they also do it w/ potato croquettes, same way, they also have alot of sicilian delights. Outrageous, always in the books for being on the best restaurants in Brooklyn.
