Do you ever wanna smack white people who claim to be "half Native American?" I have seen the whitest Irish and Germanic looking fuckin crackers naming Native American in their ancestry. Everytime I hear a white person say that shit I never believe it. I think it makes them feel like they're interesting or something, there is some sort of insecurity attached to proclaiming that some distant ancestor is supposedly a fucking Indian. I'm sure all of these folks grandmothers were rushing out to fuck the people who committed genocide on them.

Can someone explain to me why all this heritage stuff is such a big deal in the US?
On Wiki, people list heritage as if it gives meaning to their lives. Aren't most people in the US born Americans?

What else is funny is that no one proudly lies about being mixed with anything else. When someone says their part Mexican, it's always said in a disappointed tone, almost a sigh, "part Mexican." You sometimes hear in a monotone ethnic disappointment, "yeah, my dad's black." Drone, drone. They have pride in their voice when they tell you they have Cherokee blood hahahaha.

Well, I can't speak for the US, because I honestly don't know how they treat their native population, but up here in Caknuckleheadland being a native American is a sweet ride.
For Starters, they don't pay any taxes at all. (And we tax fucking everything up here.)
They also get a free education. (Only one kick at the can though, if they flunk out, no do-overs.)
And on top of that, cigs, booze, medication, all of it provided tarriff free.
I had a friend in high school that was able to claim native American ancestry. He was the whitest guy I knew but somehow he had the 'card' and got a free trip to University. (Naturally, he drank himself out of there in record time.)
I won't even go into Indian casino's, because that's a different deal entirely. A different, incredibly lucrative deal, but a different deal.
So yeah, there can be a lot on the line if you can score official Native American status.

It's about being proud of your ancestry and your family's culture/traditions. If an "African-American" from Cleveland can get away with it, then so can an Irish-Scottish-German-American from Pittsburgh.

Sometimes I get snarky when people ask me about my ethnicity. I'm not offended, but because it's such a common question, I joke around. At least ethnicity is more correct than nationality. Nationality means where were you born or your citizenship. Yesterday, a guy asked what my background was so I said, "I went to Harvard after studying at Julliard then I interned at..."
Some people think I'm Hispanic, usually Cuban.

Congratulations on writing the stupidest post I've ever read here, which is really saying something.
1. In Canada they are not "Native Americans" becuase they are not "Americans" They are "First Nations People" or "Aboriginal people"
2. Casinos on first nations land are only in four provinces, and only in one of the four most populous. Clicky
3. For the most part, the Natives deserve whatever they can get from the gov't, they've been royally fucked over for nearly two hundred years. In many cases the federal and provincial gov'ts signed comprehensive treaties with individual bands in exchange for their land then told them to go fuck themselves.
Recently, the Native bands have negotiated new treaties with significant legal autnomy. Clicky
4. Natives pay taxes if they do not live on reserves or their property is not tied to a reserve. If a native is a broker, he pays the same taxes every other broker pays. As far as provincial taxes go, YMMV. Clicky
5. Historically, the 'free education' Natives got included systematic rape and torture, with beatings if they spoke their own language. clicky
6. Living as a native is not all about casinos and gov't handouts:
