It amuses me that after Microsoft convincing the world/govt/etc that the browser needed to be integrated into the operating system, and thereby killing off most of the competition (or at least marginalizing them), now the world is realizing Internet Explorer is a pile of trash leaving us open to all kinds of viruses and spyware etc.
Indeed it is because of this integration that IE is so slow to fix. Were IE a stand-alone app a fix could be done for most of this within minutes, but when integrated a fix might bring down the whole house of cards somewhere else. Indeed as a sofware/OS hack I bet that they don't have any way to know if a fix is OK without weeks of testing. Integration means changes can have global affects more easily.
I've lost count of the number of IE bugs in the last week; three at least. There's an update for one now, but the consensus seems to be even that one isn't fixed.
I don't run IE any more except for Windows update. It's too risky, especially with those "Microsoft" certs in the wild able to sign fake Microsoft authentication onto ActiveX and who knows what else.
PS. During the browser wars MS hyped that Netscape's monolithic architecture was inferior to IE's modular approach, which is true even though MS said it. Now by integrating MS has finally proven that modular really is better (integration makes a monolith of sorts out of the OS).
