Obama has David Axelrod. Hillary had Bill (and Mark Penn and others). Every president has a Rove-type figure lurking about. The only unusual thing about Rove is that his name is in the press a lot.

If anything I would say that Axelrod has changed the way campaigns are run, not Rove. Hillary ran a standard primary campaign aimed at setting the stage for the general election, and Axelrod showed how to attack it using party rules instead of just winning votes.
