Obama is an idiot also, but at least I can expect him to tap into some of the resources that Clinton had during his 8 years of moderate success.
Don't count on it. The Obama/Dean loony left of the party think they have all the answers and despise the Clinton/Ford DLC wing. If they get in, they're going to run the show like it's a Revolution From Above and to hell with anything anyone outside the core thinks.
The problem with that is that there are a lot of Dems in Congress that don't subscribe to those views and won't take to the smug, superior attitude very kindly.
For a spot on historical parallel, I highly recommend that you check out Tip O'Neill and the Democratic Century by John A. Farrell. See especially the contrast between the Carter years and the Reagan years. Essentially, Carter's "Georgia Mafia" rolled in, alienated everybody (especially those Democratic Members of Congress who were instrumental in ousting Nixon) and managed to accomplish nothing.
Contrast this with the Reagan Years: Although diametrically opposed in ideology, Tip and Dutch could fight like hell from 9-5, have a beer together afterward, and achieve compromise.
As a lifelong (capital-D) Democrat, I'm telling you that an Obama Presidency will be even more disastrous than Carter's, both for the Country and the party.

The exact same thing can be said about Barry, the only difference is Barry is running for the office itself while Palin is only along for the ride.

Seriously. They knock Palin for not writing her speech when they've got an admitted plagiarist on the ticket. They knock her for her religion when Obama spent Twenty Years in the front pew of the First Church of Tritone. Do you guys really see any difference?
I dislike all religion, but at least Palin sticks by her beliefs, however unpopular (or, IMO, however wrong) they may be. Obama first tried to hide Wright in the basement of the State Capitol, and, when that didn't work, he cut the guy loose. Not because of any fundamental change in belief, but because he was a political albatross. I mean, does the guy stand for anything besides an increasingly nebulous "change?"

On a side note, exactly when did McCain become a Bush clone? The same liberal journalists that are shoving this down people's throats were writing articles praising him seven and eight years ago because he was nothing like Bush. You people think he is going to be Bush based on what he is saying he is going to do when he gets into office. Since when has a president ever done what he said he was going to do while he was running for the office?
On a further side note, when did the Daily Kos change its official epithet from "McSame" to "McCaine"? I can't decide which makes eblab's posts sound smarmier.

I'm just sick of hearing all the praise for a speech she didn't write. If you look past the fucking suit & librarian glasses, she's an unqualified person with a degree in Journalism that is trying to sell you old ideas that were the same ones we have heard for years. She is not bringing anything new to the race, except for her image.
And you think Obama is bringing anything new? Everything that comes out of his mouth concerning domestic policy originated in the 1960s and everything he says about foreign policy comes from the 1930s. Obama is a fucking joke.

I have been reading the Palin threads for a couple weeks now, and I still haven't read a reasonable response to my observation that the republicans have had 7 years to do whatever the fuck they wanted. Let me re-iterate, they could have enacted energy reform, education reform, medical reform, ...., but they have done none of it. All 7 years of G.W.Bush & the republicans did was create a larger deficit, line the pockets of his campaign contributors, and create an energy crisis. He actually did that in 5 years. Oh, I forgot, he got thousands of soldiers killed in Iraq, & another couple thousand civilians killed on 9-11. Let's not forget the thousand or so dead or living in trailers from the outstanding reaction to Katrina. All I have read is how awful Obama is going to be. Instead of drubbing up slop on Obama, let's try to find something positive on the republicans. It won't take you long, because there won't be much. Don't come up with some crap about "safer since 9-11", because "the terrorists" weren't going anywhere near where I live. If it wasn't for the Bush family politics, 9-11 would not have happened (I would be more afraid of something like what happened in Beslan). He centered his attention on serious issues like steroids in baseball & posing in front of a "Mission accomplished" background Outside of trying to fix the shit they screwed up in the first place, they have done nothing. Now, they think bringing in a MILF with glasses is going to get them elected? The woman can't keep her own kids under control, & people want her potentially run the whole country? This religious nut is going to become a female Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I don't see McCain lasting more than a year, so I consider him a non-factor. If the difference between a "hockey mom" and a pitbull is lipstick, then why isn't she occupying a kennel at the SPCA?

Check out the bellicose GOP rhetoric vis a vis Iran and Russia. Lou can rant and rave and flame all he wants, but the facts are that McCain and Palin have abandoned traditional Republican foreign policy realism.

Ivor, if anyone "abandoned traditional Republican foreign policy realism," it's the current jackass. As for "ranting and raving," neither party has a monopoly there.
McCain isn't going to war with the Russians, though he may rattle the saber.
Obama is not a muslim, though he sounds like an apologist.

I don't see why everyone is so positive that McCain is going to be everyone's #1 draft pick on their celebrity death list. Everyone is acting like the President of the U.S. gets the same medical coverage that everyone else gets. There will be a platoon of John Hopkins valedictorians busting through the White House door anytime he so much as stubs his toe on a coffee table. Whoever the St. Louis Rams start at QB this year has a better chance of biting the dust then McCain does.

I think the suggestion that either Bush or McCain wants to start another war is as alarmist as those who still insist Obama is a muslim.
Ahem...
U.S. Rules Out Unilateral Steps Against Russia
WASHINGTON — The Bush administration, after considerable internal debate, has decided not to take direct punitive action against Russia for its conflict with Georgia, concluding that it has little leverage if it acts unilaterally and that it would be better off pressing for a chorus of international criticism to be led by Europe.
In recent interviews, senior administration officials said the White House had concluded that American punishments like economic sanctions or blocking Russia from world trade groups would only backfire, deepening Russia’s intransigence and allowing the Kremlin to narrow the regional and global implications of its invasion of Georgia to an old-fashioned Washington-Moscow dispute.
Even as they vowed to work with allies, administration officials conceded that they wished the European Union had been willing to take firmer action than issuing tepid statements criticizing Russia’s conduct. But the officials said the benefits of remaining part of a united front made it prudent for the United States to accept the softer approach advocated by Italy and Germany, among other allies...
In an interview, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates described the administration as having come to a unified position that calls for “a long-term strategic approach — not one where we react tactically in a way that has negative strategic consequences.”
Mr. Gates, a career Kremlinologist and former director of central intelligence, said: “We are all agreed that we need to stay very much in close collaboration with the Europeans and others. I think there is a sense that we do have the time to calibrate reactions carefully. And I think there is agreement not to take any precipitous actions. But there is also agreement on the importance of continued support for Georgia’s territorial integrity.”
He cautioned that “if we act too precipitously, we could be the ones who are isolated.”

Bob Gates was brought in as DefSec by Poppy to help clean up Dubya's mess. I seriously doubt that he intends to stick around, and I wonder whether as POTUS John McCain or Sarah Palin would adhere to Gates' "realistI approach. McCain has people close to him who want to help salvage the position of Georgian President Saaskasvili, and I am unsure that the Gates approach is sufficiently "robust" for these folks. With respect to Palin, she probably derives her notions of geopolitics and strategic policy from the Book of Revelation.

Which is exactly what I said above:
Quote:
I don't see Bush starting another war when he's spending his last few months in office trying, at long last, to clean up the mess on the Afghan-Pakistani Border.
Quote:
McCain has people close to him who want to help salvage the position of Georgian President Saaskasvili
Salvaging Saakashvili's position and intervening militarily are two separate matters and are not mutually inclusive.
More to the point, aside from the occasional Curtis LeMay, most professional military personnel are extremely reluctant to go to war. Look at the Bushies who got us into this mess: How many of them spent a career in the Military? Cheney? Draft Dodger. Rice? Please. Rumsfeld? Three peacetime years in the Navy. As I recall, the only one who did was Gen. Powell, and he's spent the last four years cursing Bush for lying to him. What makes you think McCain is going to surround himself with such Chicken-Hawk flunkies like those.
Quote:
With respect to Palin, she probably derives her notions of geopolitics and strategic policy from the Book of Revelation.
1) What makes you think Palin (or any future VP) is going to have anything remotely approaching the influence Cheney has over the current Jackass?
2) What makes you think McCain is going to drop dead when his mother is still around at age 256?
3) What is the difference between Palin's Church of Intolerance and Hate and Obama's Church of Intolerance and Hate? Can any of you answer this? Because all I'm hearing is folks trying to have it both ways.

If they were to his political advantage, why did he throw Jeremiah Wright under the bus?
If they weren't to his political advantage, how come he didn't man up and say "This is what I believe."
The way I see it, both Obama and Palin subscribe to some pretty rotten Theology. At least she stands by her beliefs, egregious though they may be.

Do girls you meet in your private life find it rewarding to watch you rub your own nipples and jerk off your flaccid dick, still not erect while ejaculating? It seems to me that while many girls would put up with that for money it would be hard to find women who consider that to be a satisfying sexual relationship.
