Obama is an idiot also, but at least I can expect him to tap into some of the resources that Clinton had during his 8 years of moderate success.

Don't count on it. The Obama/Dean loony left of the party think they have all the answers and despise the Clinton/Ford DLC wing. If they get in, they're going to run the show like it's a Revolution From Above and to hell with anything anyone outside the core thinks.

The problem with that is that there are a lot of Dems in Congress that don't subscribe to those views and won't take to the smug, superior attitude very kindly.

For a spot on historical parallel, I highly recommend that you check out Tip O'Neill and the Democratic Century by John A. Farrell. See especially the contrast between the Carter years and the Reagan years. Essentially, Carter's "Georgia Mafia" rolled in, alienated everybody (especially those Democratic Members of Congress who were instrumental in ousting Nixon) and managed to accomplish nothing.

Contrast this with the Reagan Years: Although diametrically opposed in ideology, Tip and Dutch could fight like hell from 9-5, have a beer together afterward, and achieve compromise.

As a lifelong (capital-D) Democrat, I'm telling you that an Obama Presidency will be even more disastrous than Carter's, both for the Country and the party.
