Hope to catch Berlin Alexanderplatz:
Rainer Werner Fassbinder directed this 16-hour film that follows Franz Biberkopf (Gunter Lamprecht) after his release from prison in 1920s Germany. Although Biberkopf wants to remain straight, the poor economy ultimately drives him back to a life of petty crime and violence. Based on Alfred Doblin's acclaimed novel, this movie documents a man's descent into depravity and insanity, and sets the stage for the emergence of the Nazi party. (netflix)

Thanks. That's a mixture of good news and bad.

I saw it back in '81. Angst ridden, dark and moody. Was meaningful back then to angst ridden, dark and moody teen, but haven't seen it since so who knows if it passes the test of time. Great concert scene with David Bowie. After visiting Berlin before the wall came down, I can say the depiction of dirty German smackies is quite accurate. I can recommend Candy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424880/) as a heroin flick must-see. The book was great.

I wanted to take a girlfriend back in high school to see it, but her parents caught wind of the idea and vetoed it.
Since then I've been wondering if I missed something. It probably would have a lot less impact now.
