This 1976 classic features the music of Rose Royce, the Pointer Sisters, and appearances by Richard Pryor and George Carlin.
This is classic 70's. A white kid reads Mao's little red book and smokes pot, a black kid turns Muslum and gets radical, the music is classic funk (I love funk, but I hate disco), we see afros, bellbottoms, and old cars.
There are lots of interesting sub-plots here. Carlin is a cabbie who gets stiffed on a fare by a whore who changes wigs and hangs out at the Car Wash. A kid skateboards around buzzing by and making comments. There is a woman from Beverly Hills with a kid who is projectile vomiting. A suspected pop bottle bomber, prank paybacks, and all the while those cars never seem to stop coming. All the sub-plots wrap up in the end.
Check out the music on Youtube! Rose Royce had a monster hit with
"Car Wash". Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot did a
cover for the 2004 Pixar movie "Shark Tales" the video is as good as it gets, check it out!
DVD version has excellent video quality. It is a good movie to rent or get from the library. I saw it back in the day, and enjoyed it, but it is good all over again. Enjoy!
