whats wrong with being looks obsessed?

Because it's unwise to place so much emphasis on a superficial quality that so easily slips away from us. It's something that's designated at birth and there's no real way to improve upon it. Sure there's plastic surgery, etc, but that's only a new phenomenon and it's still impossible to make an ugly person beautiful via the surgeon's knife. The way someone looks doesn't translate into what kind of person they are, though we as a superficial society tend to think it does. Working to improve one's character, mind, or spirituality is a fulfilling pursuit. There's not a hell of a lot you can do about the way you look so obsessing over something like that is not only a dead end, it's downright depressing.

And of course, the irony is that I totally obsess over the way I look (though I'm better than I used to be), and my job contributes to the superficial mentality of our culture that I just complained about. So where the fuck do I come off even talking about this kind of thing?

I really hope the day comes where I don't give a shit about what I look like and I retire to the mountains of Tibet to become a Buddhist monk.
