LONGMONT, Colo. -- A man claiming to be a police detective tried to get an adult novelty shop to give him free X-rated videos, saying he wanted to make sure the performers weren't underage, authorities said.

He made three tries within nine days last month and was turned down each time. The store manager called police after the third try.

Authorities said Monday that the man showed a badge and left a business card from the Longmont police "age verification unit." Cmdr. Tim Lewis said there is no such unit.

"It was inventive on his part, I'll give him that," Lewis said.

The business card didn't have anyone's name on it, but the store gave officers surveillance video of the man. Police are looking for him.

"Porn Inspector" Arrested

LONGMONT, Colorado -- Police are searching the home of a local sword and blade maker who is suspected of impersonating a police detective and demanding pornographic videos at a local adult novelty store last month.

Police believe Drew Libby used a fake badge to try to get the clerks to give him the X-rated DVDs. Officers arrested him without incident outside of his home at XXXX YYYYY Street in Longmont on suspicion of two counts of impersonating a police officer, possession of an illegal weapon, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives believe Libby is the man featured in publicized surveillance videos taken from a local adult video and novelty shop on the 1400 block of Main Street last month.

Clerks told police that the man in the video flashed a badge and told them he was a detective was the Longmont Police Department's age verification unit, which does not exist. He told the clerks to provide him with X-rated videos so he could confirm the age of the performers, according to police.

The clerks turned him away.

The man made the claims to clerks on July 18, July 19 and July 26, according to police reports. The store's manager reported the incidents to police on July 28 and said the man provided a badge and a business card without a name.

On Monday, police distributed photos taken from the surveillance video and a Longmont police officer recognized the man as Libby, said Cmdr. Tim Lewis. Other tipsters also called in and identified him. Police this morning obtained an arrest warrant for Libby and a search warrant for the home, where he lives with his mother and his elementary school-aged son. Victim advocates were called to assist Libby's family.

"We are just an ordinary family with a lot of problems," said an unidentified woman who was in the home. "We are not criminals."

Another woman who arrived at the house with Libby said she has nothing to do with the situation.

Libby crafts his own swords and armor as part of a small business called Rogue Blade and was working to launch a paintball business, as well.
