I thought he was more of a goofball then a dick. But I can see it being open to interpretation.

I wonder what he would have run if he pushed himself the whole 100 meters and hadn't let up.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friends dad one time. He swore up and down that the Olympics had both a 100 meter and a 100 yard dash. He kept telling me he saw Carl Lewis run both in 84 and 88. I couldn't believe how stupid he was. But I was in his house so I had to kind of back off before I called him an idiot. He started trying to make me out to be dumb for not knowing that.
