Those drugs that make it an expensive "manageable chronic condition" are rather toxic, and there is not yet good evidence that they will work over a period of several decades, i.e., someone in their 20's who starts on those drugs might have a shortened life expentancy. Maybe not a year or two as before, but not a normal expectancy either...
