No, they're still very much alive and well in the trucking industry. We truckers need to be able to communicate with each other on the road for a number of reasons. Because of the sheer size of our load (thank you very much!) it's just necessary to be able to tell Dick Downshift on my left passing me when he can merge in front of me, or ask each other where to find the nearest truck stop, or that there's a bear in the air. Accident reports, weather updates, locating lot lizards, you see the importance of this tool no? Yes, they are getting smaller, but not by very much at all. they need to be a certain size to handle the wattage necessary to broadcast a signal. More power = longer range, and the smaller ones that I've seen and/or used would only put out and recieve maybe a mile or two's worth of signal. I feel like the trucking professor over here lol.
