Thankfully the horses are knocked out for this. In one frame you can see the passed out horse liying on the floor. I turned it off about 45 seconds in. My grandpa farms and raises cows and I know he does shit like this but yikes man.

Agreed, it looks harsh, but is not a real big deal for the animal, as it's drugged. In the past, I've worked during summer holidays castrating piglets. No anasthesia, no drills or other fancy equipment. Just a knife.

Twenty years ago, it was pretty common practice over here. It got banned not too soon after I worked there, though. Probably for animal welfare reasons(?).
Fifteen years ago, I worked at a slaughterhouse and all male pigs had their equipment still hanging. (This equipment was removed after the pig died.)
