Bobby Murcer was a really, really nice man.

I never got over that Bobby Bonds trade, even after they brought Bobby back from exile in Candlestick and Wrigley, without his #1 because Billy had it again, to be there when Thurman went down, as if it was meant to be.

Old Timer's Day won't be the same anymore either.

I grew up a Yankees fan and got to see Murcer, Munson, Stottlemeyer Sr., et al - back in the days before the Yankers started buying championships and before Steindumber Sr.

Murcer wasn't a Cooperstown-great player, and he always lived in the shadow of Mantle (maybe my favorite player ever), but he was damned entertaining to watch, and from all accounts, a great announcer later on and an all-round good guy.

He will be missed.

Bobby Murcer will be missed and never forgotten by all true Yankees fans and everybody else who knows what a great person he was. If not, you'd better recognize.
