Yesterday my hard drive got fried when I was trying to fix it. One of the chips started to melt, and I unplug the computer. The drive had a lot of movies from InSex and College Girls Pooping.

Did the drive fry or just the enclosure?
You might get away with buying another enclosure and installing your drive there.
Empty enclosures are available at J&R downtown, or at Microcenter in Long Island.
They run about 20 - 30 dollars.

No, it was a 6-year old internal SATA drive. I have around 13 different hard drives in total. It's a real pain managing them all, and I am too cheap for something like drobo. I bought additional computer case and I have some spare parts around, so I wanna build like a home media server or something.

Another HDD just got toasted when I was trying to repair it. Same hard drive series as the previous one, it got fried on the same spot as the 1st. Maybe it is the power supply?

I just unscrewed the PCB and it came out, I think that it is only this chip that is messed up. I think that the rest of the HDD is okay.

I am 99% sure that it is the PSU. The thing is that like a month ago I was using the computer with its native HDD. I was downloading a lot, like 3 days without stopping and one morning I woke up and computer was down. I always leave it for the night to download. I tried to power it up, and it did except that the monitor was black. So yesterday I switched the video cards and everything went fine. I think that the PSU fried my video card too!!!

I thre out the power supply and put in another one that I had as a spare from old computer. This spare power supply is a cheap one but it never gave me a problem for over 6 years.

I'm hoping that the electrical problems continue until Pantshitzer's inevitable electrocution whilst trying to repair a 6 year-old second hand power supply.

A power supply that is so borked it can take out a hard disk will probably take out everything else too.

When a hard drive it damaged this way it is very often possible to save it by getting an identical hard that works and swapping the control PCB. This is a very delicate operation since the cables are not meant for end-users to handle but it can be done by an EE or tech.
