I was looking at Halloween costumes for myself on the internet and clicked on the 'teens' section. I fit into children's sizes sometimes, so I figured why not? I see some slutty teens modeling slutty costumes and I'm unphased. Then I see this. The model is a tween, clearly slutted out like a skinny raver bitch with the Avril Lavigne pout down at what looks to be age 9. WTF?! I've realized for a long time how hypersexualized kids are at a younger age these days, but can we get some boundries up in here? Would it hurt to have some rules and say no to your child once in a while? TEEN DEVILICIOUS DEVIL COSTUME

The mall by me is packed with moms and their tween daughters dressed as skanks, a few months ago I saw a great shouting match between some skank mom and a the manager of Hot Topic because the Hot Topic manager made a comment about how the skank mom's tween daughter was dressed.

I love the fact that young adults are far more sexually sophisticated today then 20 years ago. Easy access on the net has taken the edge off the puritan upbringing this nation has been mired in since it's inception. For me, the lucky find was a girlie magazine or occasional hardcore rag found in the trash; both were rare events. Today it is so prevalent it is significantly more normal and accepted to this generation than for the pre-computer revolution generations. I say good. On less taboo mystery left to be figured out on your own. More time to focus on what really matters in the world other than if someone else is having an orgasm. Everybody, eats, poops, pees, and fucks. Everybody. Get over it and move on to something more important. And btw, I'm sorry, I should have put this out sooner. I didn't know so many people were unaware of the secret to successfully raising kids (of course I don't mean anyone here on XPT, just the world at large. I'm sure everyone hear is a great parent <ahem>): 1) Don't lie to them. 2) Always tell them the truth. 3) Answer their questions with facts or an admission of ignorance. Don't make shit up. 4) Repeat yourself as many times as necessary (usually 18 years worth of repeating). 5) Listen to them. 6) Realize no matter how old/young they are, first and foremost they ARE human beings and deserved to be treated as such. Period. 7) Your sole responsibility as a parent is to keep your child healthy and safe until they've learned enough do to it on their own. Safe, by the way, not coddled or imprisoned. 8) For them to learn, they have to make mistakes; and having someone that they can count on to help them pick up after their mistakes, helps them learn quicker. 9) Pick your fights. Do you really want to have "Or Else" arguments over ephemeral things such as hair cuts and clothing styles. As long as they meet the dress code for the intended event, who cares. Save your trump cards for life altering decisions, if you play them too frequently they lose their value. 10) Your children learn from you more then anyone else. Set the right example. Work hard, love and respect what is around you, enjoy life. 4 kids should give me some credibility: 1. Nurse, 2. Lutheran Minister, 3. Working on teaching degree, 4. Sculptor (not supporting himself yet but making money at it none the less) Don't ask me how I turned out a Lutheran.

Certainly my ex, as well as my girlfriend's ex, had shared custody of their respective children but they all lived with us except for certain holidays, vacations, and scheduled weekends.
I never laid a hand on any of my children in anger.
I never lied to them about life matters, emotions, or reality.
My children grew up respecting me because I respected them for the human beings that they were.
They all had fuck ups along the way, some of them fairly major, but not one of them hesitated to call for help out of fear over how I'd react. The secret isn't really a secret; treat others the way you want to be treated (even children). You don't want to be lied to, don't lie to others. You don't want to be hit, don't hit others. It's really not a tough philosophy to understand and seems pretty consistent to me.
The hard part is patience and perseverance. That's what bad parents aren't willing to put forth an effort on. It's easier to dominate a child to get the immediate result you desire. All that teaches is fear and hatred. Duh.
