For fans of the genre - any good pickings out there? I recently re-viewed "The Audition" (Takashi Miike, director).

You can't go wrong with anything by Miike, and Suspiria is my fave Argento flick (the soundtrack and sets make it creepy even when nothing is happening). 'Inside (L'Interieur)' is getting some pretty good write-ups at the moment...might I suggest going over to Rue Morgue Magazine or Gomorrahy (excellent trailers section) and getting a feel for what's hot? Personally, I want to check out some of these Japanese films like Machine Girl, Tokyo Gore Police and Oneechanbara...no doubt loopnode already has them! I'm kind of surprised faceblaster didn't tip THIS MOVIE...not only is it shot on a porno set (If you've seen anything Billy Watson has shot, you'll probably get deja vu), but apparently Gia Paloma's in it too!

Blue, you should tell us what kind of flicks in the genre you already like so we can make some choices.
For Example- I like Cannibal Holocaust and the original Fog movie by john carpenter but I 'm not sure they would be what you are looking for.

I saw Suspiria long back but think I am going to re-rent it, since it's a classic. I've enjoyed the the Japanese horror movies I've seen (original Pulse, original The Ring) but I probably have to get more Miike rentals to form an opinion. I generally dislike slasher movies (Halloween/Friday 13th type) but thoroughly enjoy vampire/werewolf tales. That reminds me of a series years about a town of werewolves out in the Pacific -- Wolf Lake. Did not last long but looked promising.
The refined search would be, * what are the best Dario Argento movies out there? * what's a good sampler of Japanese horror? * apart from the X-Files is there some good TV-based horror out there?
I've been enjoying Fear Itself on NBC lately. I guess it will last the Summer.

As far as werewolf flicks go- I like The Howling and Dog Soldiers off the top of my head.

You can't go wrong with anything from the illustrious Hammer Horror. My favourite vampire film they put out was 'Vampire Circus', even though it doesn't have Christopher Lee in it. Jose Ramon Larraz's Vampyres is the film Hammer should have been making in the 70's...tons of blood, sex, and gratuitous nudity. Whilst not a 'werewolf' film per se, I can wholeheartedly recommend Brotherhood of the Wolf. I can't find a trailer for 'Romasanta: The Wolf Hunt', but suffice to say, it's got Elsa Pataky in it, so you know it's worth watching. Also, if you like low-budget vampire films, then you have to give Razor Blade Smile a spin. Eileen Daly's done a little bit of hardcore work in her time too, which makes it doubly appropriate for discussion on XPT!

Thank you for the tips. I remember dog soldiers, about the brit. soldiers on maneuvers getting hit by wolfmen. I hope they add get that showtime series to DVD soon.
There's been a proliferation of zombie movies lately. Might catch the Zombies on a plane one. Heard GRomero produced one but it was not very good -the director rode in on Romero's name but did not deliver/

Chakushin ari Similar to Ring. I don't want to spoil it for you by saying any more. If you're looking for more Miike films then I definitely recommend this one.

Hammer House of Horror - someday I'll get their catalog and every Vincent Price flick out there.

no remake yet, but they've been talking about it for years. The sequel was about a 1000 times more awesome.
