Not just for porn people, but for anyone who is an independent contractor.
The downside of being an independent contractor is having to provide your own insurance, but it's worth it. As you know, doctor visits and emergency room visits are VERY expensive when you don't have insurance.
I'm paying $134 a month- that's the cost of a Prada keychain a month vs the $7,000 I'd be shelling out if my appendix ruptured, got in a car accident, tore my anus, or whatever. I'm paying so much less than my former Blue Cross PPO.
This includes dental.

Too bad its only in select states... now gia...you said something to the effect that you or someone may...."tore my anus"...I wish to make a general statement that if anyone ever is in this condition...please inform me stat....I wish to document it photographically as well as get the exclusive story on just how this event occurred. I would somehow find it bizarrely fascinating.

I actually had one instance where a whore called me out of the blue wanting to know if I"Wanted some company that night..." There was a lot of background noise while she was talking, and I heard a beep beep that I soon identified as a heart monitor. Then the noises made sense, she was calling me from the ER. It wasnt an OD however, her BF/Pimp got a little too zealous with the fist discipline and broke her collarbone. She already owed the Hospital a few grand and they were really pressuring her...I declined, on the grounds that she shouldnt mix cum with the painkillers they were going to give her But Gia is a totally different kind of whore. She is smart, obsessively takes care of herself and has a concept of finances that most civilian whores dont. This plan is ideal for her. However the deductible would be a problem for most whores, assuming they even know what that is or how it works.

I think a class like that would be better geared towards the whores leaving the biz. It would certainly offer them a much better alternative to Shelley.
But I think Gia would be much happier as a photographer. Who wants to hector adults about things they should have learned a long time ago?

Gia's is a level-headed approach. If porn stars formed a union, paid dues to a fund perhaps they could create a pool large enough to cover basic insurance needs. BCBS-XXX. The big issue would be deciding who could join the plan, and given the risk of contacting a serious disease (AIDS, etc) premiums might be a tad high.

Seriously Gia you should run a life skills class for some of the profession's new entries. It might reduce the social chaos.
The concept is actually there if she could find a in network Psychiatrist and have some of them (the PW’s) medicated (NOT SEDATED) prior to her classes so they could actually pay attention to what she was saying instead of the typical in one ear and out the other deal.
Hell Dave Cummings has or had a class on how to become a porn producer or star (more for the guys naturally) at one time at the learning annex I believe.

Leave the classes to Dave Cummings. Teaching sounds like a borefest, and I'd rather be doing photography. Besides, it's more fun for me to be servicey on xpt.

gia is a VERY smart chick....and if in fact by some whacked (no pun intended) out cosmic occurrence that they ever formed a "porn union" she would stay away and never ask to become a part of something of that nature...
Why would anyone in any state of mind want to make the mistake of becoming the porn version of Jimmy Hoffa?

I know everyone here thinks i'm an idiot, and I feel the same about most people here but can we put that aside for one moment.
Does this plan require you to state your occupation, or provide a medical history, and if so did you include your testing history at AIM? And I think you should read the fine print very closely. ALOT of Blue Shield plans do not cover occupational hazards. And the California courts have ruled (the brooke ashley case) that performers are NOT independant contractors. (TTBOY was fined by OSHA for what happened to the EMPLOYEES on his set in 2004,and he paid the fines). And before you jump all over me for this I will point out that Pornlaw (a real industry lawyer) has made the exact same statements regarding the IC versus employee.
Stay healthy Gia, thats the most important thing. I dont think anyone will disagree with that.

When I signed up, they never asked me my occupation. They did ask my medical history. Luckily, I'm very healthy, but being 37 does raise my rates a bit. I don't think you should check the 'yes' box for any past stds discovered at AIM because AIM doesn't accept insurance; thus doesn't report the stds like a doctor who accepted insurance would. They probably would with HIV I'm guessing, but it's such a small chance of catching that than the other permanent stds AIM doesn't test for.
However, if you test pos for an std or have an abnormal pap smear after signing up for Tonik, I'm sure your rates will raise. I'm wondering if the amount they raise depends on what std you get, rather it's some trivial bullshit like chlamydia, gono, staph (temporary) OR the permanent ones.
Correct me if I'm wrong here about ANYTHING I just said.
I still don't know if once you're with Tonik and you want to get tested for herpes or hpv (as you know, AIM doesn't require that for the monthly test, but what if you wanna know?), should you do that at AIM for fear that a pos result will up your rate?
There was also a question about 'implants or prosthetics.' Do breast implants count? Do they see breast implants as a health hazard?
I still am a firm believer in having insurance. After all that, what's the point, you say? Because so many other medical issues or accidents can arise, and I'd rather save tons of money by just paying $134 a month- plus dental and vision is included.
The good news, being on birth control doesn't raise your rates.

Gia,AIM is required to report all STD's to the county health department just like any other doctor regardless of how the test was paid for. Also, insurance companies check prescription records. If you've recieved multiple prescriptions for gonn/chlam or other illnesses that may raise some red flags.
And I know you already know this, but AIM does not require anyone to test. It is voluntary. AIM has set a voluntary standard that the talent can choose to follow or not. And that standard is very low as you ae well aware of.

I know of Dr.'s in Florida that check police/court records before taking on new patients.......the thought behind this is they will refuse to take them on if they have shown that they have had previous lawsuits against other Dr.'s for malpractice and the other alternate reason is for new patients wanting DEA scheduled controlled substance prescriptions without any prior medical records or history. This of course is naturally to deter anyone from going there trying to secure medication that the final destination is only for recreational pharmaceutical consumption and/or black market prescription drug sales.

That has nothing to do with anything and here's why:
How would someone be able to prove that any stds contracted by a performer were on the job? If a girl gets hpv, she can't prove that it's from a scene. To take this even further, suppose you contract HIV and the results and records match up to find the performer who gave it you. How would you be able to prove you caught it from that person during work OR on a date with him/her in your personal life?
I can sort of see how HIV is a more feasible search/match opportunity. herpes, hpv and others are not.
I think the poster that suggested there may be legal issues with individual health plans covering adult industry related STD/HIV makes a good point, especially if one did not disclose that information when signing up. If the underwriter knew the applicant was a sex worker, I suspect there's a good chance they would not approve the policy. It seems quite possible it would fall into a high risk occupation.
Also, it appears you are advocating felony insurance fraud in your response Gia by suggesting you would just manufacture a dating situation to obtain coverage if it became an issue. Insurance investigators are not dimwits.

I dont want to get into any long rolling debate with anyone here, but this topic is actually so INCREDIBLY complex and diverse in so many ways. Gia is not advocating fraud, she is simply asking a question most people ask about a variety of health issues when they consider insurance plans.
I was born fucked, my preexisting conditions existed when my dad creampied my mom and conception happened. I'm covered. Pay through my nose and ass but I am covered, and I didnt have to tell them about all the booze, drugs, whores, murderball tourneies, and guns I have played in/with. Fuck that, let them prove what Pill made my middle right finger go numb, or let them prove what Mailbox I wheeled into in a drunken stupor and cracked my kneecap and broke my wheelchair footrest so that I HAD to order a new 4300 dollar jobber from Tel Aviv.

No, I was stating such examples in opposition of being protected by the state in case of stds contracted in the industry. I clearly asked in my post how can the law differentiate between what is occupational and what is personal/off hours time when a performer contracts an std?
I believe the language of the insurance policy binder documents most likely contains contractual language that limits the insurer's liability in certain situations. If the insurer limited coverage to non-occupational hazards, and they asserted one's injury was work related, I imagine the burden of proof would be on them to establish this fact. The burden is not beyond a reasonable doubt like in a criminal case, it would be much less. If the insurer put on evidence that starlet X worked with male talent Y and it became known that male talent Y had HIV for example, that would be fairly persuasive to me without other evidence to rebut this allegation. If Starlet X could show her BF or other some other guy she was with also had HIV, then I imagine it is less clear. But, realistically how many times would that happen?
Also, we are not just talking about STDs, starlets are at risk for other kinds of injuries as well that might be relatively uncommon in the general public, such as anal tears.

Bravo, I just think Gia believes all people in this country should be covered by health insurance. Since almost all porn whores are independent contractors and don't have coverage through their employer. Their suitcase pimp husbands don't work, so no spousal coverage from him through his job, so she was just pointing out through this thread some relatively cheap health insurance she stumbled acrossed that would probably accept porn whores.
I don't like the fact that illegal aliens are using my tax dollars to get treatment for their kid's sniffles in the emergency room and I sure don't want some porn whore getting her gangbang torn anus fixed or case of gokkun poisoning cured with my tax money. This isn't fucking Canada, buy some fucking insurance instead of blowing it all on shoes.

Evan Stone's appendix burst and he had to be rushed to the hospital. He said the bill would've cost him $40,000 if he hadn't have had insurance.
SO GET INSURANCE, BITCHES. Or else all the money you worked for will be gone. And I don't mean the fun type of gone at Gucci and Prada.

Certain parts of my health bennies aren't great (vision, at least, from what I understand), but I only pay $45 through the plan negotiated by my union.
Unions, however, in America are doomed if the organizations like the UAW can't at least push for government regulation of corporate bonuses & shit like that. I find it funny that scumbag Bush wanted a condition preventing labor unions from asking for pay raises in the bailout funding, but didn't bother to say anything about his cronies running those fucked up outfits.
