Another way to look at the standings:
Team, Total Payroll, Wins, Wins/Payroll
Florida Marlins/ $ 21,836,500 /33/ $ 661,712 Tampa Bay Rays/ $ 43,820,598 /37/ $ 1,184,340 Oakland Athletics/ $ 47,967,126 /33/ $ 1,453,549 Pittsburgh Pirates/ $ 49,365,283 /29/ $ 1,702,251 Arizona Diamondbacks/ $ 66,202,713 /34/ $ 1,947,139 Minnesota Twins/ $ 62,182,767 /31/ $ 2,005,896 Baltimore Orioles/ $ 67,196,248 /31/ $ 2,167,621 Washington Nationals/ $ 54,961,000 /25/ $ 2,198,440 Texas Rangers/ $ 68,239,551 /31/ $ 2,201,276 Kansas City Royals/ $ 58,245,500 /24/ $ 2,426,896 Cincinnati Reds/ $ 74,277,695 /30/ $ 2,475,923 Milwaukee Brewers/ $ 81,004,167 /32/ $ 2,531,380 Philadelphia Phillies/ $ 98,269,881 /38/ $ 2,586,050 St. Louis Cardinals/ $100,624,450 /37/ $ 2,719,580 Houston Astros/ $ 88,930,415 /32/ $ 2,779,075 Cleveland Indians/ $ 78,970,067 /28/ $ 2,820,360 San Diego Padres/ $ 73,677,617 /26/ $ 2,833,755 San Francisco Giants/ $ 76,904,500 /27/ $ 2,848,315 Colorado Rockies/ $ 68,655,500 /24/ $ 2,860,646 Chicago Cubs/ $118,595,833 /39/ $ 3,040,919 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim/ $119,216,333 /39/ $ 3,056,829 Toronto Blue Jays/ $ 98,641,957 /32/ $ 3,082,561 Atlanta Braves/ $102,424,018 /32/ $ 3,200,751 Boston Red Sox/ $133,440,037 /39/ $ 3,421,539 Chicago White Sox/ $121,152,667 /35/ $ 3,461,505 Los Angeles Dodgers/ $118,536,038 /30/ $ 3,951,201 New York Mets/ $138,293,378 /30/ $ 4,609,779 Seattle Mariners/ $117,993,982 /22/ $ 5,363,363 Detroit Tigers/ $138,685,197 /25/ $ 5,547,408 New York Yankees/ $209,081,579 /31/ $ 6,744,567

I hope we have some real deal baseball fans in here. Let yourselves be known.
Did I read correctly that the Cubs have more championships than the Phillies? Bwaaah aha ha ha hah ah ah aha ha ha!
Who's playing well for your team? All of you?
First of all, I 've got to give props to Chipper Jones for switch-hitting over .400 from both RHP's and LHP's. That's insane. True fans, this is a call, you should be trying to watch him bat whenever possible.
Brandon Webb is slinging mad junk for the D-Backs in my town. The team is playing young and shitty lately but could easily get it together and start raking it, injuries permitting. Webb can make an All Star batters look stupid, he threw a complete game win last week in 1:54. That's Maddux in his prime style ownage.
I don't know anything about those american league teams. Last I heard they went fake in '73, but there are some good players over there. Manny Ramirez rakes, period.

All you need to know about the Royals is that one of their starting pitchers has a higher batting average (and probably more multi-hit games though I would have to look that up to be sure) than their starting shortstop. Keep in mind the Royals have played a grand total of three games this year where their pitchers had to hit. Same starting shortstop has less hits than the Royals as a team have home runs. The Royals are last in the A.L. in home runs. At least everyone else in the division sucks too.

It's just not right what has happened to this franchise, with it's great fanbase, fantastic confines, and proud history. Now relegated to farm system for the big spenders, it pisses me off.

Same spreadsheet, plugging in 6/14 wins vs. 6/8 wins versus payroll and tracking how the team ranked 6/14 vs. 6/8:
Florida Marlins, 0 Tampa Bay Rays, 0 Oakland Athletics, 0 Pittsburgh Pirates, 0 Arizona Diamondbacks, 0 Minnesota Twins, 0 Baltimore Orioles, 0 Texas Rangers, -1 Washington Nationals, 1 Kansas City Royals, 0 Cincinnati Reds, 0 Milwaukee Brewers, 0 San Diego Padres, -4 Philadelphia Phillies, 1 St. Louis Cardinals, 1 Cleveland Indians, 0 Colorado Rockies, -2 San Francisco Giants, 0 Houston Astros, 4 Chicago Cubs, 0 Toronto Blue Jays, -1 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 1 Boston Red Sox, -1 Atlanta Braves, 1 Chicago White Sox, 0 Los Angeles Dodgers, 0 New York Mets, 0 Detroit Tigers, -1 Seattle Mariners, 1 New York Yankees, 0
Obviously, San Diego needs to shop Jake Peavey to the Yankees for Joba and/or Phil and/or batters.
"On December 12, 2007, he {Peavy] signed a 4 year extension, worth $52 million with the Padres."
That's chump-change for a cash-rich, success-poor Steinbrenner-family-led team...
The Yanks are desperate as Clemens isn't an option for a mid-season "infusion" of starting pitching...

No one caught my error, so I'll yell at myself: Gunker, you idiot! "-4" means the Padres ranking is four spots higher than the week before, therefore, they have improved! Also, the A's suck, Obama is a secret Mooslim, the Oregon Ducks suck, and all media is part of a vast Liberal conspiracy, except for Fox News, which is indeed "fair and balanced."
