On this day 75 years ago, the first drive-in theater opened in Camden, N.J., showing a British comedy titled, “Wives Beware,” for 25 cents a car and 25 cents per person. Interesting article on NYTimes.com ....

I saw The Birds at the drive-in when I was 2. Years later saw The Omen, Jaws, Star Wars, and Alien there. I wish drive-ins were still around so I could justify leaving the house in my pajamas. Can't they keep them around and moderize them with hooking stuff up through your phone or an ipod jack instead of hooking a speaker up to your car?

In my HS days the drive-in would broadcast a stereo FM signal you picked up from your car stereo. Haven't been in years.

I watched Breakdance and Breakdance 2: Electric Boogaloo @ the drive-in (as a double mother fscking feature). My sister was desperately trying to get laid and I was desperately trying to master the craft of breakdancing yo!

i watched 'exorcist' at age five or so, when they broadcast it on television. that shit freaked me out so bad that i literally would not go to the bathroom by myself in the middle of night until i graduated high school. i'd call for my mom and make her come with me.

Parents also left me alone to go bowling without a baby sitter to watch "Night Stalker" (1974-75, therefore I was 6-7) on the TV. Too scared to go to down the hall to the bathroom, so pissed on the living room carpet next to the fireplace.
The smell was a giveaway, and I think they then hauled me along to the bowling alley daycare after that.

Here's a good source for everything you ever wanted to know about drive in theaters, including those that are still operational where they're located. http://www.driveintheater.com/index.htmThe loss of the drive in has fundamentally changed American life. Try sparking a joint or go for some heavy petting with your date in the local Cineplex and see how far that gets you.

The only movie that can still scare me till today and the old lady in the bathtub in the original Shining.
My first ever movie in a theatre was Poseidon Adventure, Squirm, Cabaret, then Carrie and of course Sat. Night Fever.
