Wow, when freestylah regains some semblance of sobriety/consciousness/coherence/calmness (*delete as applicable) after the Italy/Netherlands game, I'm sure he'll have to admit that the Oranje did themselves proud against the reigning World Champions.
Sneijder's goal was a classic...
As I don't drink, I'll stay with coherence. Watched at a friends' and returned home late.
It was indeed a great match from Holland. Everything went as it was (is) supposed to go. Coach Van Basten (some will remember his magic goal against Soviet Union in 1988) has taken a lot of stick the last 4 years. Nobody understood his selection of players, he promised attractive play and it was boring with bad results.
And now this! A few surprising choices in the starting line-up, but all three players (De Jong, Engelaar & Bouhlarouz) are capable of playing at this level. The first ten minutes I was NOT amused by how our left side played, especially defended. After that it went better and better. Second goal was a beauty. The guy who rescued at our goal line, Van Bronckhorst, delivered the pass that Kuyt headed towards Sneijder.
I knew they are capable of playing like this, but it has been a few years ago that it was actually this good. Most impressed by the defending four. Italy had 1.5 chance at a goal. If it stays like this, who knows, we might be in for a surprise.
The rest of the tournament is entertaining as well. I watch approx. one match per day and I think Germany and Spain look very solid. If Spain can keep this form after the first round...... (I know: collapse).
The games must go on!
