Hollywood- Actress Gina Gershon is lashing out against Vanity Fair, calling a recent assertion romantically linking her to ex-president Bill Clinton "irresponsible journalism."

Gershon's rep Mara Buxbaum told E! News that the Vanity Fair article written by Todd Purdum hinting that Gershon and Clinton may be romantically involved "is a lie and is irresponsible journalism," going on to say that Gershon and her lawyers "are demanding a retraction."

In the Vanity Fair piece, Purdum, while listing other possible Clinton trysts, says that he's heard through sources that "Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California." Clinton has responded to the article, calling it "dishonest" and "slimy" while calling Purdum a "scumbag."

This stinks of an Obama smear campaign. He's going for the Clinton's Achilles heel. If the affair is true +1 for Bill.

BTW: Purdum is the husband of former Bubba spokeswoman Dee Dee Meyers.

Curiously (or maybe not so curiously), Purdum is also the writer Clinton PERSONALLY APPROVED for the famous Vanity Fair cover interview that was published in the 90s. That interview was the result of a we'll-call-off-the-attack-dogs-if-you'll-do-the-interview agreement between the VF honchos and the Clinton camp.
