I know we have some boxing fans on the board (like I used to be) so I am curious to know who your favorite boxers are? It can be anyone whom you actually have seen fight live or on tv and does not have to be who you think was the best, just who you liked.
I have a few: Arturo Gatti Livingston Bramble Simon Brown Mike Tyson (for boxing only) Sugar Ray Leonard Jeff fenech Sorry in advasnce, if I butchered any of the names

I've only seen a few, but that prince dude was funny.
I really liked it when he got his ass kicked.

You are 100% correct Smilingarab, that is the exact time period I am talking about for Tyson as well, when he actually bobbed and weaved and jabbed to get in close to the opponent and then wham he knocked them out.
Chico- I at first hated Julio cesar chavez because I thought he was a pretty boy but he kept winning so of couse they kept showing his fights so I watched them and slowly I began to really respect him, he grew on me to the point that he too is one of my favorites- the same thing with Oscar, started out hating him(pretty boy face) and then respecting him and then big fan of his.

Remember when Tyson got knocked out by Buster Douglas in Tokyo? I didn't see the fight (didn't have pay-per-view... that was the other cool thing about the early fights, they were all on HBO, dammit)
Anyway, there was a photograph of him, the Unbeatable, Undefeated Unified Heavyweight Champion, fumbling around on the ground trying to shove his mouthpiece back in.
Wow, I thought, this is as low as he can get!
Little did I know...
Tyson is the only fighter I've seen that literally terrified his opponents. Not with all the sideshow antics of his later days, but just... fear. I think he gave up a reach advantage in every single title fight and still scared the crap out of people. I don't think we're going to see that kind of mystique around a fighter again for a long time.
Anyway, outside of Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, Pernell Whittaker and Michael Nunn (remember him?) all had moments of greatness. Sugar Ray Leonard fought too infrequently by the time I was old enough to watch--they were kind of like "boutique fights," especially when he was reduced to beating the crap out of that pansy Donny Lalonde (the Great Canadian Hope) and smacking an 80 year old Roberto Duran around again.
From watching old films, George Foreman in his prime was absolutely ferocious. If he had half of Ali's brains back then he could have been champion for years. And though people sort of laugh about it now, Larry Holmes was a mean old bastard in the early 1980s as well.
I hate being a fogey about it but it's pretty clear that boxing has gone into the shitter in the last ten years. All there is is Mike Tyson's face tattoo, Don King's hair and Bert Sugar's awful hat and eternally unlit cigar.

Again i agree with you Smiling arab, I no longer watch boxing except for a few select fights, whereas i used to be the biggest fan. I t has really gone down hill fast, between the bad decisions, the early stoppages and the lousy fighters I got sick of it all, and I wonder if there are any fighters out there who can bring it back.
ever since Tyson made a fortune, I think all ranked boxers have become pretty boys. They fight like they are afraid of taking a punch. They only take fights from guys their handlers have hand selected for them, & are not willing to take chances. We need some guys from the old days, guys that fought like they wanted to hurt you, seemed to relish taking a punch, & would fight for far less money just for the sake of fighting. Todays boxers have a tendency to fight like they are

That's another thing, the old school boxers would always have rematches, you would see a series of great fights as these guys would fight one another a couple of times, now it is all tied up in money and boxing politics so it is very rare indeed when a champion grants a rematch, although every once in a while it still happens.( And I am talkin good rematches here not some of these hug fests that pass today.)

I admire Ali's talent and he may be the Greatest but I never liked him and every time he fought I was rooting for the other guy.
ps Smartt, what's up with the pic? It is "your" videogame collection.
