NY Times By SUSAN SAULNY Published: May 30, 2008 The bandit pulled his truck to the back of a Burger King in Northern California one afternoon last month armed with a hose and a tank. After rummaging around assorted restaurant rubbish, he dunked a tube into a smelly storage bin and, the police said, vacuumed out about 300 gallons of grease. The man was caught before he could slip away. In his truck, the police found 2,500 gallons of used fryer grease, indicating that the Burger King had not been his first fast-food craving of the day. Outside Seattle, cooking oil rustling has become such a problem that the owners of the Olympia Pizza and Pasta Restaurant in Arlington, Wash., are considering using a surveillance camera to keep watch on its 50-gallon grease barrel. Nick Damianidis, an owner, said the barrel had been hit seven or eight times since last summer by siphoners who strike in the night. “Fryer grease has become gold,” Mr. Damianidis said. “And just over a year ago, I had to pay someone to take it away.” FULL STORY

I've seen it over $4 for quite a while in NY. From what I've seen, it's still under $4 in NJ.

$4.19 here in l.a. I used to never even look at gas prices.
Anyway, restaurant chains should start loking into selling their leftover grease, but they probably won't. God forbid corporations do anything resembling sustainability.

Last week, I paid EUR 1.569 per litre. This makes approx. EUR 5.94 per gallon (1 liquid gallon = 3.785 litre). Now, hold on: This equals USD 9.26 per gallon. And rising....

$4.26 a gallon here in San Diego. Gas has gotten so expensive it's limited my travel plans. There is a great party I want to go to in LA tomorrow but I'm not going to go. Just the gas will cost me $35-40.

$4.00 get's me to work and back home. I think thats its a good deal. Sure, there are many Chinese and ugly people in the subway, but for $4.00 I shouldnt complain much.
it costs four dollars to ride the subway? that's insane! when i lived in boston it was 85 cents a trip, unless you were going way the fuck out to newton or something.

it's $2.00 each way. Cheaper if you have the monthly MetroCard. Cheaper still if you're in the TransitCheck program, which automatically deducts the fee in pre-tax dollars from your paycheck, so you lower your overall tax liability at the end of the year.

The prices here in NYC are unfortunate. I think that government should be paying me to ride the subway.

That's why I gave up a car, fuck that, my Metro card gets me anywhere in NYC in 20 minutes tops. If I have to go far, a friend will take me and I will throw her/him 20 for gas or take car service. We are so fucked in the country.
Let's all ride steam powered bicycles!
Would these price hikes will affect the ass oil too?

Locking fuel caps for autos are back in high demandBY MICHELLE TRAURING AND ARIELLE BRECHISCI | lidesk@newsday.com 10:32 PM EDT, June 6, 2008 John Martone went to a Glen Cove auto parts store Friday, intent on buying two locking fuel caps. He'll have to wait until Monday, as White Dog Auto Parts was sold out of caps for his 2000 Buick and 2002 Cadillac SLS. Martone, 76, of Glen Cove, said he doesn't know of anyone who's been the victim of stolen gas, but he wanted to buy the caps as a precaution. "It's worthwhile for thieves to steal my gas, with gas prices the way they are," said Martone, who's in the roofing business. As the cost to fill 'er up keeps going up, locking fuel caps are flying off the shelves of Long Island auto parts stores. Some buyers have been victims of stolen gas, but most are doing it as a preventive measure because gas prices are so high, store managers and workers said. FULL STORY

It just cost me over $80 to fill up my car yesterday... $4.35 a gallon.
If I wasn't telecommuting 75% of the time I would be F'd in the A right now.
