BY ASSOCIATED PRESS 6:54 PM EDT, May 29, 2008 A Fox News employee has sued the landlord of her company's office building, saying she got bedbug bites at work. Jane Clark, a satellite feed coordinator, says in a lawsuit filed Thursday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court that she picked up the bugs in the mid-Manhattan tower that houses the New York Post and the Fox News Channel. Clark, 37, says the critter encounter last year left her unable to work and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. She said an investigation revealed that another employee was bringing the bugs to work from his home, but that person no longer works at Fox. The lawsuit asks unspecified damages from the building's owner, a management company and two maintenance companies. The Fox News Channel and its parent News Corp. were not named as defendants. Forget mosquitos, chiggers and ticks. I feel for this broad. I know a number of people who have been through this. Bedbugs in an urban environment are a HORROR. They can hibernate for a year. So, if you move into what looks like a nice, clean apartment, they can come crawling in from upstairs, under the floorboards, behind the wallpaper, etc. They have even been known to hide inside clocks and in book bindings. There are now even bedbug-sniffing dogs that can be rented for a couple hundred bucks an hour.
The bites are the least of it. Getting rid of them is hellish. In the suburbs, you can drag your shit onto the lawn and bomb the place. NYC apartments are akin to being underwater in a sub. I've been very careful when moving, but it's always a fingers-crossed situation. I also check mattresses in hotels as soon as I walk in. Last thing I want to do is bring one of those fuckers back to my Manhattan apartment, especially because I don't want to throw out all my books.
BTW, this epidemic is the result of the banning of DDT.

"Fox News’s senior vice president for operations and engineering, Warren Vandeveer, admitted to the New York Times yesterday that Fox’s Midtown Manhattan newsroom was recently infested with bed bugs. “An exterminator determined that the incursion was limited to a ‘very small area in the newsroom,’” but added that the home of the employee who brought the pests into work had “the worst infestation he had seen in 25 years in the business.” Vandeveer says the bugs have now been “totally eradicated.” (HT: HuffPo)

Does George Jr.'s ever-diminishing approval rating pose a threat to your self-worth? Baked Chicken Curry
Very Good GNK-adapted from Gupta, Lal & Singh's "Let's Eat Indian"
CHICKEN 1 medium, skinned and cut into serving pieces
YOGURT 0.5 C
ONION (YELLOW) 2 grated, drained
GINGER 1 t fresh, grated
TURMERIC 1 t
CAYENNE PEPPER 1 t
CUMIN 0.5 t ground + 0.5 t whole, divided
SALT 2 t
GARAM MASALA 0.5 t
CLARIFIED BUTTER (GHEE) 2 T
POTATO 3 medium, peeled and cubed
Mix the chicken pieces with the yogurt, onions, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, ground cumin, salt and garam masala. Leave to marinate
for at least 30 minutes. Heat the ghee and fry the potatoes until golden brown. Remove from the pan and put to one side. Fry the
cumin seeds in the same oil for 2 minutes. Pour the chicken and marinade into a flameproof casserole, mix in the cumin seeds and
fry for 3-4 minutes. Arrange the potatoes over the chicken, cover and bake in a preheated oven at 325 degrees for about 1 hour until
the chicken and potatoes are tender. Serve with rice.
Note: to prepare on stove top, add 1 C water when adding the chicken and marinade to the casserole. Simmer over low heat for
about 1 hour until the chicken is cooked.

For those who haven't heard about the Auschwitz Gaffe: Quote:

The Obama campaign says the mistake was not as horrific as it might seem. His uncle was there at the liberation of Buchenwald. Obama just confused the names of the concentration camps.
