If I had any firearms/weapons/guns, why would I tell anyone? That defeats the purpose.

Actually, no one. I just want something I can take to the range for first-timers. I was on a date with a girl last week and she nearly wet herself when she shot my Glock. It was a bit much for her.

Actually, the deterrent effect is the most efficient use of a firearm. That is, having it but not needing to use it.
Believing that a homeowner may be armed is the number one reason a burglar will bypass a house. Thieves are notorious cowards.
I own 7 pistols, 10 rifles, and 2 shotguns. Most are locked in a gun safe that would take a small tractor to move. Three of the weapons, one shotgun and 2 pistols, are hidden in different spots in the house that are locked but quickly accessible.
I've been shooting since I was 8 and until I left the po-po I was on the range once a month. For the last 8 years I've been lucky to get out once or twice a year.
At $20 to $50 a box for bullets, if I bring all my guns out, I can easily go through a grand in ammo in a single day. It can get real expensive real quick.

I have a 12 gauge semi-automatic, a .410 bolt action, and a 16 gauge pump that in actuality is a 16 gauge single shot due to the pump being broken.

You wacky Americans sure love them guns. We don't really have that option up here. I have a really nice and heavy telescopic baton. Not fancy, but perfect to whack the wrist or collarbone of the piece of shit smoking crack and/or pissing in the foyer...

You just spent $1K on ammo and live in an apartment? Does bear season come to Reseda more than once year or something?

I said I "could" spend that much, but rarely do. Usually it's a couple hundred every time I go to the range.
I have nothing against hunting, I, myself, do not hunt. My firearms, while a hobby, are more for protection from animals of the two-legged kind.
I haven't lived in an apartment on well over 20 years and never in Reseda. I currently own a nice 3200 square foot home bought and paid for with the profits from porn.
You don't even hunt and you need all that fire power? Are you going to shoot an intruder 20,000 times or something?
You are another Va. Tech waiting to happen. I bet that's why they kicked you off the force, because you couldn't pass your psych test.

It's called a hobby for a reason. You make a lot of asinine assumption, Cit. I left the Sheriff's Department a year after a new sheriff was elected because I didn't like his policies or politics. It was the right thing to do since his department has been rife with problems and scandal for the last several years.
And contrary to being the cause of the next mass shooting, I'm more likely, however remote the possibility, to be the "Armed Citizen" who prevents it from occurring. You see, I pass my psych tests with flying colors every year to keep my Concealed Carry Permit current.
BTW, it rarely takes more then two in the center body mass to stop an attacker, not 20 thousand.

That’s what all psychos say. Porn isn’t a profession you get into unless most other options are closed. Maybe IAD canned you for selling drugs and guns, I’d believe that.

I spoke with a relative, a retired NYC Police Lieutenant with his 20 years in, and emailed an old friend, a prosecutor for well over 25 years for NYS, NYC and now Westchester County.
Both quickly said that a large loud dog was better for deterring a burglar than owning a gun. They both said that burglars can easily see who does and doesn't have a large loud dog with little effort, and thus usually go to the house without the canine alarm.
The DA said he's dealt with countless cases of gun theft from apartments, offices, homes and even directly off of people who were carrying the weapon and were surprised by the assailant ... including, he said, a couple cops.
He believes that a good number of crimes in NY are committed with stolen guns.
He also said that, though it occassionally happens, he's never directly been involved in a case where someone has shot the home's watchdog. But, he's been involved in many where a "perp" has shot a gun owner.
The cop asked a very interesting question. He wants to know how the burglar is going to know by stalking out a home from the street, etc., which apartment or house has a gun and which doesn't.

Because of it's obvious presence, certainly a large dog is a good deterrent. But as another thread on this board pointed out, a large dog is not always a viable option for apartment dwellers for a large number of reasons.
From a recent 20/20 or 60Minutes episode (I don't remember which) it was stated that the majority of illegal guns in NYC come from legal purchases just across state lines and are illegally brought back into NY state. The numbers quoted far exceeded the use of stolen handguns.
The criminal use of firearms is a fact of life. Further outlawing and banning of firearms only insures that criminals will be the only ones armed.
When it comes right down to it and your life is being threatened by a criminal with a firearm, you can have your large dog and your 911, I'd rather have my Remington 870. But that is just my opinion.
BTW: Right below my ADT Security sticker is another that says "NRA Life Member". If that's not enough to scare away a bugler then he deserves what he gets by breaking into my home.

You know nothing about guns, you know nothing about cars, and you nothing about anything else. Nothing you say can be believed. I don’t even think you were a cop at all any more. You’re just another internet liar. You’re stupid for thinking anyone would buy your waste deep line of bullshit. Please do the world a favor and stick you head in an oven and try to bullshit that, because I’m sick of wading through it here.

I don't know about that, GJ. I think they generally cut the phone line and then try to get in. If they hear the alarm siren they leave. The brand of alarm doesn't make much difference. I think I'd cut the net access too, were I a thief, because some systems and cameras work through the interwebs.
I have a big dog who barks first, then licks. It'll be up to me and my arsenal to bring the pain.

In short your idea of deterrence is wait until the guy is in your home with a gun and THEN deter him. My best deterrence has been to live in good, active neighborhoods. The last gun violence I know of in Weehawken is years ago when two cops pulled their guns on each other over who got the cop car with the working airconditioning. No shots were fired. I don't remember any shots in the 19 years I've lived here. The biggest controversy here in the last year was whether or not George Clooney made an illegal pass when he got in an accident. Quote:

Well ... People in small apartments shouldn't have powerful guns either. Where's the bullet going to go if you miss the "perp"? Or if you drop the thing and it accidently goes off?

Until I get some cited facts I can present for him to rebutt, I'll stick with the info I got directly from a former Brawley prosecutor.

What are you babbling about? I never said that they should ban guns. Personally, I would like them all licensed and nationally tracked. But, if criminals were the only ones with hand guns, it might be much easier to figure out who they are. And, just let the cops shoot when they see one.

Personally, I don't have a dog and I only have old target pump guns from my youth.
Everyone I know who was accosted by a crook with a gun and/or knife, including those whose apartments or offices were invaded, just gave up their stuff and lived.
Two were armed and taken by surprise. Of course, you'd wouldn't be
The only people I know who were killed in gun fire were bystanders in gang violence such as my sister's ex-brother-in-law who was shot on a Miami street when two passing cars emptied their guns on each other and missed.

I had stickers I got in the early 80s that has a gun laying on top of a rolled out Constitution from a second amendment lobby group. It says that "the owner of this property is armed and prepared to protect life, liberty and property."
I've been robbed at gun point just as many time with as without the sticker on my door. None.

Favorite for CCW is my Glock 27 Small And Weak .40 with the extension. Home is Rottie and Remington Model 11-87. Just a few of the models I have. Most kept inside a gun safe.
