At close range, nothing beats a knife. As an ex-cop, you should know that. And why would I hide behind something mechanical that can fail at anytime?

I've been stabbed once and shot at three times. I was more afraid during the shootings.
The asshole who attacked me with a knife did so from behind and was going for the artery in my leg since I was wearing a stab vest. Because I was able to draw my firearm was the only reason the attack did not continue. I could not have fought him off otherwise.
I now have this nice two inch long purple scar on the back of my left thigh because of it.

In 9 years on the force, we lost 2 officers to shootings and 1 to a traffic accident. Never lost an officer to a knifing.

Sorry free, while knives are way cool, in a fight for my life, I'll take firearms. The only weapon I've ever had misfire on me is a cheap little 9mm that I received as a gift. It would never be my first choice as a survival weapon anyway.
