BTW: Toynbee isn't without his critics: Hugh Trevor-Roper described Toynbee's work as a "Philosophy of Mish-Mash." Peter Geyl described Toynbee's ideological approach as "metaphysical speculations dressed up as history" Walter Kauffman dismissed him as what we would today call a "Pop-Historian" (or, perhaps, media whore) "...Toynbee's huge success is confined to the United States where public opinion is heavily influenced by magazines ..." Critics generally also attacked Toynbee's theory for emphasizing religion over other aspects of life when assessing the big pictures of civilizations, as well as his use of myths and metaphors as being of comparable value to factual data, and... the soundness of his general argument about the rise and fall of civilizations, which may rely too much on a view of religion as a regenerative force. Barr is anti-tax and pro-gun, both of which are platforms embraced by both the Lib and repub parties. But that's about where the similarities end. He wrote the "Defense of Marriage Act," led the Clinton impeachment effort and (until he started running for the Libertarian nod) was steadfast in his support for the failed "War on Drugs," to the point of opposing medical Marijuana. He even tried to ban the practice of Wicca in the Military. Not much of a (small-l) "libertarian."

He reversed his stance on drugs in March, 2007, around the time he began positioning himself for the run. About as transparent as it gets.

Growing up in the bible belt I was forced into many a churches in my youth. Methodist, Southern Baptist, Freewill Baptist, and Pentecostal, just to name a few. Say what you want about them, but if any preacher spoke about black folk in that way, in any of the churches I have been in, the parishioners would have stood up and walked out the front door. Trinity Church of Christ is a church of hate.

Was talking to my mom the other day about the new developments.....she is highly upset the way now Michael Pfleger is not in the mix.....and yes Trinity has banned cameras.....not sure how the one Sunday got in.

It opens a window on his philosophy that betrays his militant belief system. He can deny it and try to distant himself from it all he wants. The economy is definitely circling the rim and if he somehow gets elected, you get first hand look as it gets flushed. I consider my self a centrist socially and conservative fiscally, but of course that looks like far right to you. I just don't believe we can spend ourself into a healthy economy.

Pfffft, guilt is for suckers. I know that a bigger government isn't going to help. He'll bring the troops home only to hire twice as many new gov't. workers, to oversee 1000's of new regulations. Dissolve NAFTA and bring economic boycott on us by our neighbors. Yeah that will help the economy.

May 19, 2008 A Catholic priest has filed a restraining order against the parents of a severely autistic 13-year-old boy in an effort to keep him from attending the church in Bertha on Sundays. The Rev. Daniel Walz alleges that Adam Race's unruly behavior endangers others who attend the Church of St. Joseph. Race's parents have ignored the restraining order, calling it discriminatory, and Carol Race, Adam's mother, was cited by police and is due to appear in court on Monday for violating the order. "He said that we did not discipline our son. He said that our son was physically out of control and a danger to everyone at church," Carol Race said.
