individual retirement fund. the max/year is up to 5k now. i've had one for 9 years. wish I would've started sooner. and your savings are tax free.

Whoa, whoa, back up honey. An IRA really stands for Individual Retirement Arrangement.
It's true they are beneficial to most taxpayers, but not all are tax free. If it's a non deductable traditional one, when you pull it out after 59 1/2, none of it is taxable. If it is deductable, when you cash out, all of it is taxable at that point and it's essentially a tax deferral.
A Roth IRA is a whole different ballgame. The real trick is to do it every year, get it in the right investments and start when you're young. Good luck with it Gia.

No, that's the way it was (and still is) written in the tax code. It's just that in bank and brokerage brochures it's morphed into Individual Retirement Account.
It's a great plan like Gia said and really the purpose of it is for people to secure their own future, given the uncertainty of Social Security. But the damn thing is WAY out of control as far as details, options, cut off points depending on your income etc. Keep it simple.

^^my in-laws have that, but she never even uses it. she thinks dishwashers are for lazy people. she of course only says this while she's standing there watching me load mine.

Just got a new Whirlpool and it's great. With the new Energy ratings out there most everything uses about a third less water and energy than the best machines 15 years ago.

Well no...they're not free. Believe me, we NEVER had one when I was young and I did dishes by hand for years. Hated it. Plus the flu would spread through the house like crazy when we did them by hand. I think the water temps in the new ones reach about 170 degrees so you know that everything comes out perfect.
I'm just fucking happy the machines work as good as they do. You people get tax rebate checks over there??
