not quite funyuns, but certainly in the coated, deep-fried onion family of foodstuffs from which i rarely stray. tonight:

penne and smoked sausage casserole

2 c. uncooked penne pasta
1 lb. smoked sausage, cut into 1/4 inch slices
1 1/4 c. milk
1 can condensed cream of celery soup, undiluted
1 1/2 c. cheddar french-fried onions, divided
1 c. shredded mozz. cheese, divided
1 c. frozen peas

cook pasta... brown sausage...
combine milk and soup. stir in 1/2 c. of ff onions, 1/2 of the cheese, the peas and the sausage. add cooked pasta. transfer all to a 13x9 baking dish. cover, bake at 375 for a half hour, til bubbly. sprinkle with remaining cheese and onions, and continue baking uncovered until cheese is melted.
